Steering bosses for pre-59' bugs?

Been looking over the net in the last 48hrs trying to make sense of steering bosses for my oval. Came with a $$$$$$ motolita boss and this...

http://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=C13-79-4016

Wanting to do something oldspeed that fits my legs without selling a kidney. Is there a difference between pre-59' and 60's beetles? Is the spline different or there some other difference I'm not aware of?

Yeah the splines changed in 60 when they swapped from the flat batwing wheels to the Dished horn ring style.

^^ yep, and the upper column is supported at the boss, not the shaft as in the later style.

I bought my Motolita wheel for my Type 34 Ghia from this company in the UK. http://www.moto-lita.co.uk/default.aspx
Pricing was pretty good and shipping reasonable.

Looks pretty nice in there too

I'm interested in these for the purposes of legroom...

http://www.ezpowersteering.nl/headline/23/53/EZ_reintroduced_Le_Mans_Style_st...

But at the price I can't afford one. However, I do have a shed full of tools.

Gasbnr, throw me a pm. I might be interested.
