Tweety to go SPFI EA81

Brief run down. Tweety Panther trike has VW type 3 auto and SC12 supercharged Sunaru eA81 draw through. Similar and actually modelled on Joels SC12 beetle aa few years back.

The draw through set up had one major drawback- poor economy at around 18-19 mpg pushing a 550 kgm machine less when towing our van. Unacceptable.

I've purchased a Single point fuel injection kit from a guy that lost interest. The lit isnt esy to purchase form the states. Basically the kit includes a modified dizzy (gear location), loom, ECU, Coil, HP fuel pump. All off the EA82 SPFI we didnt get here in Oz.

Items to find and purchase are - O2 sensor (easily available) and bung, EFI fuel hose, warning light, top radiator hose mod, air filter, fusilbe links,

The conversion will be done after August 2nd. Lately I've been occupied doing the following- labelling every loose wire of the SPFI, rubber mounting the ECU, ordering O2 bung and sensor, replace the faulty fuel pump and getting a return fuel hose and fitting on the tank.

Its been a tough learning curve more intense than the sueprcharger install. It should give the trike much better economy. Some figures:

The EA82 SPFI had 90hp. My EA81 NA made 74 (59 ATW), EA81 SC12 at 5psi made 100hp (82 ATW). The auto sucks a staggering amount of HP from the engine- around 18%. I wont achieve 90hp until my next engine I have spare is fully rebuilt with close to sPFI specs including 9.5:1 compression ratio up from stock EA81 of 8.7:1. and a matching cam. Until then it should run much smoother and have enough power to tow our van. The other option is going EJ. I like the EA engines, simple and easy to work on.

The SC to be removed

Ian, standard eA81 on thT AUTO BOX i GOT BETWEEN 27 AND 34 MPG. I'm hoping 30mpg will be the least I'll get with the SPFI. fingers crossed.
