Battery ground Strap position?
I hoping someone can shed some light on where the ground wire from the battery mounts to the body or pan. I can't see any obvious position so hope
someone can help.

The bolt next to the heater outlet on the pan, you also have the wrong type of battery. It should have recessed terminals.

Yes
straight to the body mount bolt next to the heater tube...
I always take that bolt out, clean the metal around it, and use a new zinc plated bolt..
Your battery is the wrong type and may be too high...
the battery terminals should be on the other side of the battery close to the earth bolt.. but that part doesn't really matter if You are renewing
the battery leads..
make sure You place a large cover over the battery.. like a piece of rubber or large mudflap.. or a couple of thick car mats.. very dangerous - a 12
volt battery with exposed terminals.. like that..
I was just reading an old vw magazine where the owner said He had a new beetle in the 60s that was burnt out when He put His knees on the back seat to
get something from behind the seat...
the battery shorted out.. and fire...
Now, this was a 6 volt car, and they actually had covers to fit and clamp the battery down, so, He had taken the cover off..
anyway, if someone pushes the rear seat down with their knees etc... the seat springs hit the terminals resulting in one burnt out beetle.. this is
more likely to happen with a high terminal battery..
I still cover My battery even though it has recessed posts...

Depends what model/country.
I read it on samba, so it must be correct.
Sometimes Volkswagen dealers sell spare parts. Amazing isn't it!

It's the threaded bolt hole there in the pic
Diagonally down from the body bolt you DON'T need to remove
Zip tie a piece of rubber (eg old car mat) that covers the entire top of the battery and terminals to the battery mount bracket. This is to prevent it
from arcing out on the metal base of the seat when you put it back in

Looks like my ground bolt has been removed or not replaced when the floor pan was replaced at some stage. I might just buy a new ground strap and
weld a new bolt close to the original position. I assume mounting a ground to the body bolts is a no go due to the rubber gasket that runs between
the body and pan. Poor Earth?
Also, the battery came with the car so might replace the battery cause if anyone has kids out there I can assume you that they'll put their knees
through the seat.
Can anyone recommend a 12v battery or do you have a Century code and I pick one up tomorrow.
Few picks of the resto which I know isn't the right spot on the forum....but here they are anyway.

actually the threaded bolt hole is there. I can't see for looking. When you look at something for so long it's amazing what you don't see. Good
pick up Dalmo. Might book an eye test while I'm out buying the battery tomorrow.

Hi
I always clean the area that the strap mounts to and using a new longer zinc plated bolt and flat washer, I also fit a zinc plated nut on the bottom
side of the bolt after wire brushing/cleaning the metal and use a good strong zinc plated spring washer.
The result is an excellent earth...
Don't forget to put another earth strap between the chassis and gearbox.. best to use a new strap here too..
wire brushing where the strap bolts to..
for a perfect connection between the metal and strap..
the strap makes electrical contact with the bare metal...
