Beetle windscreen size changes - what years please?

Is an early bug windscreen ie 1961, 62 etc the same ice as the later 60s when the body shape changed ie 68 onwards? I know they got bigger and curved on the supers etc but will a screen from early 60s be the same as late 60s? I have a screen that fits my 68 bug but have been asked if it will it earlier models.

I would say no
from memory screens from 58-67 are the same..
I think they are pretty consistent thru those years but after 67 mind altering drugs and ugly sticks made fat the new black..
:starhit:
I'm not into chubbys or fattys but yep I'm sure screens are different..
get the tape measure out and give your screen height and width..
I know that between oval and 58 screens there is about 11mm height difference from memory when I last looked at screens..
also the rubber may give you a clue if it fits up too..

Is your screen a dead flat piece of glass?

Later type Beetles have a slight curve. They have to be moulded.

At work when we get new screens for Early Beetles they cut them from float, which is regular flat laminated glass.

Regular laminated glass isn't legal for forward facing glass, it has to be toughened laminated, and for side windows it has to be at least toughened which means it all has to be cut to shape/size, then heat treated which all costs heaps!

Float lam is great for shower screens!
