1959 Beetle - How much is it worth?
Hi:
I have a few VWs and want to cull the collection a bit as I am never going to restore them all. I am keeping the two cars that have an emotional
significance to me (my father's and uncle's Beetles) and want to sell the 1959 Beetle. A friend of mine is interested in the car, so I wanted to
work out a fair price.
The Car has been stored under cover (open fronted shed) since the mid 1990s when I bought it. The body / pan has no rust and is in pretty good
condition, though the paintwork is peeling a bit and there are a few dings and scrapes on the bodywork.
Mechanically the car is not great, there is a fair bit of play in the kingpins and the engine is clapped out (smokes a fair bit). The engine is a 40hp
anyway, not the original 36hp. The gearbox from memory is okay, with the standard crash first gear. I originally bought the car because of the rust
free straight body.
The car is in reasonable condition, however the major areas that will need to be addressed include a repaint, interior / headlining replacement,
replacement engine and kingpins. Most of the parts are on the car apart from the passenger seat and semaphores. Basically my friend wants to buy it
and restore it as a road car.
I have been looking around a bit but have not been able to find a late 1950s Beetle in a 'barn find car' condition, where I can work out a
reasonable price.
I was thinking $1000. Do you think this is a fair price? The car is stored in Sydney.

welcome to here!
if you are selling to a mate, n you're happy with the groilla then it's fair n you are happy
open market I would think you would get a bit more for it..
it's a 59 model so everything mechanical would be flogged out
rust is the issue n if it is fairly clean n free of the cancer it is worth more than a rusty bucket
it sounds like in fair nick for a 59 been stored..
lie I said if it is for a mate then the gorilla or if the open market I'm sure you would get a bit more
at the end of the day you get what someone is willing to pay

I think a $1000 is good price for a friend...
although the car is rust free it still has a lot of work to do on it..
maybe $1500 on the open market..
depends on how many people want to buy it.. lol
