Vinyl roof
I'm watching a 1970 1500 which has a vinyl roof, does anyone have any experience with these, I actually don't mind the look but am worried it may be
a big cause for rust.

my HQ had a vinyl roof from the factory, it had buckets full of rust under it only at the seams though.
It is a very good way to hide some horrible things underneath though, Have you seen this car in the flesh?
Quit calling rust patina

No, it's not too far from home so I could go and have a look if I decide to seriously pursue it. The body is not bad and floors look ok, interior is
stuffed and I really prefer the 60s bugs but if it stays cheap I may be tempted to check it out! I had a mate with a Chrysler who had the same probs
with a vinyl roof!

No idea what would possess anyone to put a vinyl roof on a bug like that.
They did do a special edition beetle with a vinyl roof called a big beetle but it had a sliding ragtop too. Chances are this one hasn't been on it
since new so rust shouldn't be as much an issue.
I too like the earlier 60s shape the most. One day..... I bought a 68 which was the first "new" beetle. Still a 60s though.

i have found that factory jobs didn't bother with painting the roof over time water gets in and rust ,with the non factory its been painted and
usually the rust problem is fixed

Hail damage.
I read it on samba, so it must be correct.
Sometimes Volkswagen dealers sell spare parts. Amazing isn't it!

Had a look at this bug today, interior is stuffed, front boot doesn't open and it has an idle problem once it warms up, the rear deck lid has a bit
of rust in it and there is a big crack at the bottom of the drivers door pillar!
Floors are pretty good including battery area and there doesn't seem to be any probs in the gutters or around the rear window which is where I
thought the vinyl may cause issues!
4hrs to go on the auction so who knows?
