Just a thought! In South Australia, you pay a 10 cent fee for every drink container you purchase. When they get tossed out of car windows, some poor
pensioner will pick it up and collect the 10cent refund.
Cigarettes are highly taxed as it is, an extra 10 cents per cigarette would hardly add much to the purchase price? So why not make butts worth
something?
Good thing is, when you have no money to buy cigarettes, just empty your ash tray and cash in those butts. Or throw them away so the poor pensioners
can pick them up.

For 12 or more years I've been reporting litter and smoky vehicles to the EPA on line in Victoria. one car had two young guys smoking and both threw
out their lit butts. $400 for them.
Had a guy at a drive thru maccas. stuffed an empty packe tof fags in a bush. I walked up and threw it into his cabin and told him to bin it properly.
after he got his order I followed him )I didnt order!!) and he threw it out again. reported- $400.
Once a guy threw a butt out on a total fire ban day. I pulled up at the lights and asked him to pick it up. Nope!. $200 fine.
To some this would look like a quasi frustrated copper. To me it is forcing education. These guys would tell 30 of their mates and have a widespread
effect.
Butts to collect is a good idea but there would be health hazards.
so register on line. Victoria https://www.google.com.au/#q=epa+victoria

If they banned cigarettes, there would be no hospitals!
Have you seen where the tax money goes and how much they tax them.
Thats why the government wont ban them

Wrong. It costs more to treat the illnesses caused by smoking than the taxes raised.

agree....pity really.
those tossers are too self centred for this to work, it will be everyone else's fault that they get fined.
I live on the pristine macdonald river near bendemeer and the amount of rubbish thats thrown out the window only metres from the river is disgusting..
Even from people that are going to fish from it!?! Long weekends when people are heading to their "Hobby farms" for a piss up shootem weekends are
the worse..

I am not going to be popular here but...well we are all different arent we.
I also live in the country- 2 hours from the northern Melbourne subs. Every Friday night you can see along the Hume Highway at a hamlet called
"bunker hill" a stream of headlights. City folk going to the country. Fine. Great if they want to enjoy the peace and quiet. How many are towing 2,
3 or more unregistered trail or motocross bikes? Fine...well mostly no, not fine at all.
If these environmental terrorists (told you I wont be popular) have at least 500 acres AND use their bird scaring machines in the centre of their own
land AND have at least a reasonably efficient exhaust system AND limit their blat blat baltting to say a reasonable 2 hours a day then I withdraw my
tag of terrorist and replace it with vandals.
"If a motorcross motorcycle had zero noise eg electric, how many would be ridden"? There is a "look at me mentality" I have it too- a trike that
is a real "look at me machine" but is quiet....
Lets disect this. 95% of these people dont give a rats about the native wildlife nor the residents nearby. Most wont have 500 acres. Place a rat tatat
in 100 acres for 4 hours a day and kid you not it will drive someone crazy. And most of us permanent residents are avoiding crazy by living here in
the first place.
So up they come, camp somewhere overnight and cant wait to unhook their noisy machine that took the place of chest beating the cave man had, to ride
off usually in a state park. Oh, they ignore the signs that state motorcycles must be registered. The dirt track in a state park is no different
legality wise to the Hume Highway they came up on. They didnt ride their noisy unregistered monster coming up here though eh....no sir. They might
have got caught see. So off they go. Little old man driving his New Toyota "oh what a feeling" tray with his wife of 45 years as passenger
casually tows his trailer along that "deserted" track, an area designated as an official firewood collection area suddenly comes across a stream of
revving self interested often young irresponsible pricks coming towards him. The first bike misses him, the second clips his tray and crashes and the
third goes through the windscreen missing the old man but kills his wife.
The first keeps going thinking the others will follow. The crashed biker has a broken leg and unknown head injuries. The old man saw the second guy
fly off to one side in his rear view mirror. The old man a Vietnam Veteran who has severe nervous disorders, tries to ring for help at all times
knowing his wife is dead. No reception. He cant leave his injured biker.
So lets cut to the chase. Ambo helicopters, search parties, etc one old man hopefully survives the ordeal, two dead, one injured, one biker asking
himself why it happened. Funeral, grieving loved ones, possibly guilty parents that drove them up there in the first place. (get the picture) Old man
seeking damages from TAC. TAC seeking damages from surviving biker. Police charge both surviving bikers. slap on the wrist there. community picks up
the tab. These Bikers expect that, they dont think where the money comes from, like riding in a state park they dont care. Old man sues the parents.
Parents lose their home. Mum blames dad, marriage splits community picks up the tab...oh boy...
I'm sure you get the picture. Thats in a state park. Now briefly lets look at private land. I own one acre. next door once was a vacant one acre. In
a town of 200 people. then the new buyer had 2 girls 4 and 6 yo. he just had to buy them a motorbike each. After all these pretty feminine girls
begged for a motorcycle...not! but- well its what you do right? so around and around they went sometimes less that 5 metres from our outdoor bbq area
every weekend. ringdingding ringdingding For 6 hours or more a day. if it wasnt the girls riding it was mum and dad or one of their 12 relatives
tenting it. eventually dad asked us..."the bikes dont bother you do they haha"...I replied "why do you ask if you already know they dont". so an
arguement developed. I asked council. Council explains its really hard to prosecute them even though they have a bylaw covering it). So mentioned they
have a small caravan no toilet and two kids. The land was sold within one month. More than one way to skin a cat.
We are talking pollution. Noise pollution. We are also talking about attitudes. Bad attitudes. If you own a vW beetle and the loudest exhaust ever
heard then you do come into this category and I make no excuses. It bothers most people that want to hear their tV or want their baby to sleep. But if
you like a nice note on your engine with a reasonable noise level and good efficiency then great. It'll turn more heads than the previous. And you
wont be hated, your machine will be admired.
I apologise if I've crossed the line with some. Maybe its my perception. I dont see country folk travelling to the city annoying city people in their
activities. But we see/hear the city folk coming here in droves and many of them are towing their weapons of destruction behind them.
For the inconsiderate- life isnt all about you. this world is shared by others including animals that have rights too. Buy a 4 stroke, good muffler,
large land and make friends with thy neighbour.....yeh, I'm an old fart with a good point

Well I didn't expect this many replies on the subject, tweety does have a point though, polution comes in many guises not just cig butts, actualy
there is a page for reporting noise polution but in reality if we all reported every case of "tossers" we see would the authorities have time to
chase them up? hardly, I often chat people for dumping litter but wonder if it has any effect, two cases I recall gave me great delight.
1. Two well suited fellas complete with brief cases walking side by side into a shopping centre, one was smoking and just tossed his half smoked cig
onto the path way as they entered the shopping complex, I hurried up to him and told him he had dropped something and he quickly turned around to
retrieve whatever he had dropped, not seing anything that he recognised he gave me a look of confusion, I pointed at the cig (still smoking) and his
mate walked off laughing, he followed giving me a dirty look but didn't pick up the cig.
2. A woman sitting at a bus stop reading a mag threw her finished butt onto the ground (a butt receptical was within one meter of her) as I walked
past I picked it up, advised her she had dropped it and gently placed it on her open mag, scared the bejesus out of her, funny as.
Yep, your right, my hallo is gettoing a bit tight, but I have to get my entertainment somehow.
I dream of a day when a chicken can cross a road without being asked for it's motive!
