T3 auto vs manual towing capacity

Anyone got an actual figure not just a guess at the towing capability (maximum or recommended weight it can pull) of a T3 auto vs a manual T3?

I'm guessing the auto would not be as high as a manual.

I know the synchro is higher but they are hard to find and out of my price range so we can forget those.

2WD = 1500kg (with brakes)
4WD = 2000kg (with brakes)
Both = 600kg (whithout brakes)

Owner's manual does not mention anything about gearboxes.
It does mention that you require the heavy duty radiator which was supplied standard to Australian 2.1 vehicles. Make sure that it hasn't been replaced with an aftermarket thinner one.

If it has a Hayman Reece towbar the limit is 1000kg. (I wouldn't use one)

I read it on samba, so it must be correct.

Put a post on the Kombi Club forum as there are a few that tow with T3s. I haven't found anything in the handbook about not towing. Do you have a copy of the handbook?

1500kg is the 4 speed/44kW and 5 speed/57,68,70,82kW, the turbo diesel,57,82kW syncro goes up to 2000kg. Special Certificate (VAG has details...[yeahright]) takes the 4 speed/44kW up to 1800kg and and the rest up to 2000kg.
There are a few other details but that should give you an idea.

Maybe the special certificate is the bigger radiator???

ps. and no mention of Auto, and yes, beware of the Hatman Reese T3 towbar, low rated and I needed to beef mine up for car trailer duties

Special certificate is a German TUV thing. Doesn't apply to Australia.
