EDIT.electrical//alternator change/porsche/vw

hi, i had a porsche style alternator it only had 2 wires .one larger than usual wire push on and one regular size push on. i have now changed to a standard vw alternator and it has 3 pin set up on the alternator, all regular size push on. one is dplus ,dminus, and df, marked on each pin. can anyone tell me what i need to do to wire this correctly. thanks greg... IT ALSO has a thread near the 3 pins about 8mm that obviously takes a wire with a ring connector that bolts on. it is marked b plus.

there are internal and external VW alternators

Sounds like you have the early external type

B+ is the big fat red one to the battery.

D- is the brown earth to the external voltage regulator.
D+ I think is blue to the external voltage regulator and the alternator light.
DF I think is green to the external voltage regulator

Your external regulator should have the similar markings on it.

I read it on samba, so it must be correct.

Sometimes Volkswagen dealers sell spare parts. Amazing isn't it!

+2 That is the same setup I have on my motor.

It will all be OK in the end, if it's not OK it's not the end!
