[FS - VIC] 1970 Squareback project,
Sad to say it, but we are selling our 1970 Type 3 Squareback project. I've been working on it when I can for the last year. When I bought it, it just
needed a new starter motor to be a runner. I installed a brand newie into it and it started up easy! I then gave it a general service, replaced all
the leads, spark plugs, oil, points, adjusted the valves and balanced the carbies as best I could. The engine ran great after that!
Once I was sure the engine was up to scratch, I started the tear down. I have removed all fenders, bumpers, all interior except the dash and door
cards, removed all external lights front and rear, fuel tank, bonnet has been taken off. Only rear hatch window has been removed, all other windows
are still in place and in good condition.
I have just covered the entire rear of the body (under the fenders in 2 coats of rust bullet - $100 per litre!
Good points: Engine runs and was a daily driver until a couple of months before I purchased it.
1600 Dual Carb Manual
Front and rear seats are in good condition except a tear in one, which will prob need a new cover.
Tight steering box, with no play
Usable tyres
Pop out windows
All trim, electrics and lights work.
Front flexible brake lines have been replaced
Brand new starter motor
Most rust has been cut out.
I have purchased 2nd hand fenders to replace the really bad couple that were on there.
Comes with a couple of cans of primer, incl weld through primer.
Also a heap of 1mm sheet metal for you to make your patches up with.
Bad points:
Rust. Like I said, it's been cut out, but you will need to be handy with a welder to bring this baby back to life. I have cut out sections from under
the brake reservoir, a small section from the body under the rear hatch, a couple of little spots on the left floor pan and quite a bit section of the
right hand floor pan.
A couple of sections of the rear roof were starting to bubble, when I cut that out, I exposed quite a bit of rust in the internal roof, which will
need to be treated or cut out entirely. Right hand side is pretty nasty, but left hand side looks not too bad.
The bumper mounts had to be cut out and patches welded into the underbody. You might want to re -weld my patches on those spots just to make sure.
The actual bumper mounts will need some work just to remove the rust and neaten them up.
There's a couple of small spots that need patching up in the drivers door too.
Other than the above - most is surface rust that could just do with some treatment.
You will need to buy:
Headliner
Seatbelts
Carpet
Door and window rubbers
Battery
This is a great project for somebody who knows how to weld or wants to use this as an opportunity to weld. Which is what I was going to do.
I spent lots and lots of time, hours and elbow grease on this baby (even though you could never tell from looking at it in it's dismantled state).
So, I would really, really, really like to sell it to somebody who will continue on with the project and not part it out. It can be saved, just needs
some love from someone with a bit of spare time.
If you'd like to know more or think you might be interested, please get in contact.
Car is located in Point Cook, VIC.
Looking for $1000 - negotiable if it's going to the right home (eg. I would really, really, really like someone to continue on the project).

My reason for selling is because I stumbled across an Early square which has had most of the work done already and I couldn't pass it up.
I would love to continue working on this one, but I just dont have the room.
It's not registered, doesn't come with any RWC obviously.
I can be contacted on zero 4 3 1 4 zero three 4 4 six
Cheers

Good running 1600 engines go for $500+.
You get a good car that needs some rust repairs with a running engine for $600.
Might be time to send it off to ebay.

That is embarrassingly cheap, I do wish you where in QLD !
Try Gumtree, most of my Type 3 parts sell quickly on there.
Good luck with the sale mate.
