I am seriously thinking of painting my Door trims and my seats black with Dupli-Color Vinyl Paint, Anyone else tried this? i don't have a lot of money at the moment and think it will be a cheap solution to buying new one's.

Vinyl paint is amazing stuff - I have paited a few steering wheels with it (2 bay kombis) and it looks awesome and has yet to fade or get sticky even on hot sweaty days.

Definately worth a try.

I have used it on sections of my door cards, and it is very good, but after about 5 years of quite heavy use, it is wearing off in places.

Thanks for the reply's, I am thinking of painting just the door cards for the time being and seeing how it looks before I try the seats, however I am not sure on how many cans to buy? How many cans did you use Jeff? Also my cards are bent up at the bottom corners after being left in direct sunlight for the past 16 years,is there a way to fix tthis? I was thinking of using a heat gun to heat it to the point of flexing them. Or should I just buy new ones?

Thanks.

I made up custom door cards & had them trimmed in Black Vinyl. I have then fitted door pockets on them, which is what I painted black - I only used 1 can to do it all, but prep. it VERY well.

This is the front door card setup, with a large open pocket, a pocket with a door, a courtesy light at the front, and a 'clearance' light in the VW emblem at the back -

And this is the rear card setup, which just has a pocket on it.

I hope this gives you the idea.

That looks really good. I may have to try somthing similar later on. Also what sort of car are those rear seats from? They look really comfortable.

They are the original rear seats from my car - I just re-did them.

The old upholstery was shot, so I stripped them down to the frame. I then got a pair of old front seat backs that had adjustable head rests, stripped them down, cut out the frame section I needed, and had them welded into my old seat back.

http://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb364/Jeff_Walsh/L%20Bug%20interior%20modifications/MyBug-Backseatre-trim-frameswithheadrestsfitted1.jpg

The bloke that did my interior then worked some magic on them to make them look good.

They look amazing haha great job!

I have another question at the moment... My transmission is leaking in multiple places... I will upload pictures however, is this an easy fix for a beginner? Or should I get it professionally rebuilt? Also what would it cost to rebuild it my self vs a general price for a mechanic to do so?

I was in the process of installing my Engine after replacing the Main Seal however i am having difficulties with lining the transmission shaft up? i have the engine supported by a trolley jack sitting half on the shaft however it seems as if somthing is stopping the engine from sliding all the way onto it. Can any one please help? i dont want to break anything.

Thanks

You may not have the splines lined up. Grab the fan belt and turn it around slightly to see if that will line up the splines.

Had to relocate the bug today, at least it's now closer to home.

And as the engine I am still having difficulty installing it, I have however ordered a clutch allignmdnt tool as I didn't have one but was told they are a good thing to have

yeah haha, i never thought about getting one as this is my first engine install. But after finding out the hard way i think its best to get it, it was only cheap to so even if it don't work (even though it will) its still worth a shot.
