Administrivia - Weak passwords
Hi folks,
If you have a weak password, anyone can log in as you.
Please don't be like Hollywood celebrities and blame "hackers" or us admins for sending naughty posts or doing naughty things with your account,
particularly if your password weak.
What is weak?
Weak passwords are those:
a) Passwords that are shared with other sites. Our security is pretty good here, but if you use the same password somewhere else,
there's a chance that the other site might be compromised and your e-mail or bank accounts are raided too.
Pro Tip: Use a random, long password for each site you commonly use.
b) Short passwords. I can crack 14 billion passwords a second. You cannot stop me knowing your password if it's less than 7
characters long.
Pro Tip: Use long random passwords, and a different one for each site.
c) Dumb passwords. If you are using the password "password", you're doing it wrong. Adding one to it ("password1") is one of the
top two dumb passwords in common use today. "123456" is the top dumb password. I know some of you have these passwords.
Pro Tip: Use long random passwords, and a different one for each site.
It's time to change being a victim of fraudulent use of your accounts into being security winners.
I use KeePass X, but there's heaps of password managers out there, including Safari 6, Firefox Sync, 1Password and so on and on. Find one that makes
you feel happy and use it.
If you need help changing your password, let me know.
