Does it REALLY matter?

I love the look of the 23 window busses but they are pretty rare and the price reflects that. I know it would offend the purists but, with all the repair panels available now for the 23 window bus, would it REALLY matter if you took an 11 window or something else and turned it in to a 23 window?

Most of them need all the panels replaced anyway so why not replace them with the panels I want and enjoy the drive?

Would not matter as long as you do not claim it to be something it isn't. Just likt GTHO replicas, it is ok to build a tribute out of a std falcon, but just don't try to claim its the real deal to purists or the next buyer. My2c

Up to the individual, at the end of the day it is your bus and make it how you like.
It will never be worth the same coin as the original, but if you are just making it for your own enjoyment it won't matter.
I personally don't like the idea of it , but if I didn't own an original maybe I would have a different opinion ;)

If it's YOURS, and it is what YOU want....then it REALLY does not matter what others think.

Plenty of people have done it in the past.

Just pay attention to the smaller details that will make or break it, ie. it would look pretty silly without a sunroof, deluxe trim etc

Nah,
Doesn't matter but should be done right IMO. No point doing half a job. Better to make it look nice.

BTW - if you are going to I have a new sunroof still in the box that I can help you out with

By the time you buy all the correct panels , glass , seats , sunroof , deluxe clock , trim on and on labour to do the work you might as well buy the genuine bus even a lhd 21/23 or uk bus

It is not something I would do to sell but one of those things that would be just for me as I love the airiness of all those windows and the sunroof. I would probably also put in better suspension and engine/brakes so I could use it as a daily so it wouldn't be kept to a stock look anyway.

The cost of even LHD basket case ones are so high now and you still have to replace all of the panels if you buy it as a project. I am kicking myself that I didn't buy one from Sweden (I think) a few years ago. It was a real basket case and original RHD for only 1k but I hesitated because of the difficulty shipping it. It had no running gear or suspension at all and was pretty much rusted everywhere.

Ok let's say you go red 9 front and rear ..10k, motor big cube 140 rwhp 10k , gearbox to suit 3500, rims tyres 1500 , panels 10-15 k , sunroof, glass, rubbers misc 10k min , weld in 20 k in a shop , paint 10 -15 k ..finding all seats and trim 10k if you for proper split seats not bay rear , misc 10 k ...adds up ..and starting bus these days 3 k basket case 5-10 early 11 w .. Obviously you can do it a lot cheaper and deals are out there but you have to look at the big picture with splits theses days and if you can't turn a spanner or weld your at the mercy of shops and less and less are doing resto's as its too much pain as clients don't want to pay ..ill sell you a registered ratty 61 11w for 30k :)

Not to mention that you'll spend a hell of a lot on Windex and polishing cloths....

25 years ago I owned a vintage car. Purchased it as it was- in Mandarin red a LH Torana colour.

But it was a Ford, Ford Zephyr Mk3 actually, the one with the large rear fins. I always wanted one like what my pop had. I was happy.

Then I joined a car club. I was unhappy.

My car never got the seal of approval. Pity my character was never sought. However, 2 years later I had fully restored one top to bottom when funds came my way unexpectedly. Suddenly I was "in the mix". Subsequently I left the club. Lesson learned. Do as you please with your own property with due consideration for its place in the world and your wallet. Respect the 'mark' but in the end do what you can with the funds you have.
