T3 Torque onverter and auto reco questions
Most of you know I'm overhauling my ea81 and auto trans type 3.
The auto is working ok. But as the engine is out I'm going the whole way. It over revs in first gear if a little too much throttle and leaks oil.
thats all.
I have a friend of a friend that is well trained in this area. He is willing to fully reco the auto and split the torque converter and rebuild both to
suit the Subie engine (which isnt much different to the VW engine in output). He said he only wnats to do a thorough job or not at all (this is
genuine its the way he operatoes and can see why- loves doing it right) for a max of $2500- worst case senario.
Bearing in mind I'm on a very low income and that I also ahve the engine to rebuild fully is this an overkill? I dont know much about autos and
converters but if the auto is inspected and its now in running order, surely it wouldnt be that expensive to get it running 100% and the same for the
converter.
what are your thoughts? and if it was your auto what mods can be done eg higher speed out of 2nd gear?
