Gas lift strut regassing. Any idea how much?
Got a camping trailer with 3 doors fitted with gas lift struts (6 struts total) all of which had been installed upside down (not sure if this effects
operational life at all) and apparently failed a while back. My options are replace or regas. Not sure if its still cheaper to regas like it used to
be.
Has anyone had struts done recently and if so how much was the regas?

I got some trailer struts regassed, and I was charged $22 each.

I just got new ones for reto fit and replacements for my cars, funny thing also 22 each.

Any idea if having fitted them upside down (PO not me) would kill them or reduce their lifespan? The struts are only 400mm long and 200N which I'm
guessing is the force. Lids are aluminium and not huge or heavy so not sure whether I need just good struts the same or to ramp it up to 300N. I'm
guessing the ones on there worked at one point.

I would assume it would be ideal to have the fat bit up and the shaft at the bottom when the lid is closed. To stop dust settling on top of the seal
to the shaft.

The ones on the soob are fitted body down and ram at the top, can't see that it would make much difference though
I dream of a day when a chicken can cross a road without being asked for it's motive!

There is a bit of oil in with the gas, so if the seal is at the bottom, then the oil would touch the ram/ seal area all of the time.

All factory applications I seen are like this, But I get what helbus is saying.

These ones are labelled with the top clearly marked, obviously the manufacturer of the trailer or the installer of the struts have not seen that
(first thing I saw).
I'll have to calculate what force is needed for the lids its holding up and see if a pair of 200s are enough. I think they can increase the force
when they regas?

All depends on what people are saying is up. Most struts swap their up and down when closed or open. I am thinking of the most time is spent closed,
so it is the orientation while closed I am speaking of.

Not sure if I'll get any better than $80 for 3 new pairs of struts delivered. Was quoted around $60 plus gst per pair to regas from one place.
Looks like new might be the go.
