Replacing Transmission Main Shaft Seal (Input Shaft Seal)
Hi guys
I may need to replace the Transmission Main Shaft Seal (Input Shaft Seal) and want to make sure that I do it correctly.
I've read some conflicting information regarding whether or not you put some type of sealer (eg: gasket goo) on the outside of the seal prior to
pressing it in or to leave it dry.
I'm assuming that you should put some oil on the inside of the seal.
What's the consensus here?
Regards
Greg

normally dry as the seal, well seals itself lol, smear of oil will help installation
what i do to make it easier to install i put a super thin coat of permetex aviation gasket compound.
its like a brown tar like substance that doesn't fully harden, I found it 100% prevents any oil weeping so far from the ones I have installed on
various things.

Hi Vlad
I've got the Permatex. Are you saying that you put some on the outside of the seal?
