Duct tape and fencing wire:lol:

Works every time.

For the repairs, not for the missus and the dog.

at least your gearbox was making noise. mine blew up without warning. After seeing the carnage inside I could not understand how it didn't make any noise.

ok the missus refuses to die and the dog just keeps digging massive holes and shitting nonstop...I get it this is my lot in life ......but where can I find all the parts I need to rebuild the beast in one go....surely some poor bastards been down this road before and can give me a heads up.....can I also say im fucking most dismayed that all the used parts people are hooked into a central link so any used part you need is sourced then passes through six hands all with massive amounts of $100. dollar note adhering grease....final result being...recon trans swap $5500$3000$1900$300....I digress...can anyone tell me where I can get whats required to rebuild ?

if you know I meant it in jest "which of course it is" then you should be smart enough to know that this is a plea for... help...and knowledge from one vw driver to another..im sorry if my lame attempt at humour offended you and please accept my condolences for I am constantly offending people as such .....massive character fault I know......im a work in progress...unfortunately.....but seriously listen..if you are the same cole ive been emailing in my desperation to find a trans and have said it will cost $3000. for the one in Brisbane you can fuck right off...ive got enough friends..if not I apoligise for any malice you might feel if you are that fellow you are just a special kind of fuckwit and im sure as a devout kombi driver our paths will cross......

Buddy you aint emailing me,You will find these 2 lt kombies have had very hard lives you'll struggle to find any kind of good deal on a s/h 2lt box,I have had experience in rebuilding 2lt kombi engines last one took 4to make one,the mainsshaft bearings are very common failues in these boxs and i've seen some where the housing is unusable.Don't know what $3000 gets you but im guessing if you pull your box apart and it needs oh i don't know bearings i'd probally try any of the major chains that sell bearings what do you recon?Failing that imo dave buttler on thegoldcoast is the only place that ever gets my money for gearbox work he's done plenty, has lots of usable 2nd hand parts but cheap and vw are like cheap and valiant unheard of thesedays.A mate just bought a porsche901 5speed had been opened and what needed to be fixed for 2500,considered an arron roberts auto?

Someone on here was selling an 1800 box that had been fully reconditioned for a little over $1200 exchange. This suggests to me that maybe the cost of a rebuild is close to that amount. Not sure if 2 litre boxes cost more to build than 1800s do but imagining the parts are similar.

Used is always a punt. But often things like gearboxes are an invitation for a repairer to rub their hands together and plan their next overseas holiday (same thing happens when you make an appointment with a medical specialist). Really the only way is to pull it out and strip it down and see whats up, if you have someone that can help and knows gearboxes then all the better, plus they should be able to assist with sourcing any parts.

Is it a manual or an auto? Location may help people advise best places to source parts too.
