Beetlemania

Hi to everybody,

Traded our MB in on a "new Beetle" a couple of years ago and just love driving it.

Used to have a Porsche 911E many years ago and worked on them and other high end cars. retired mechanic.

I never worked on VW's or Beetles.

A fortnight ago I decided after driving the wife's "new Beetle" I would like to buy a project car for some fun and because I like driving the NB so much I would hunt down a genuine Beetle.

Purchased a 1976 STD Beetle Herbie replica.

It was owned by a young women when asked to describe it, replied:- "It has a wooden steering wheel and a wood thing on the gear lever. That's all I know, I am a girl."

On inspection the front suspension was non-existent, leaky muffler, rusted bumpers, LH window not functioning, oil inengine blacker than tar, little braking effort, etc. I'm sure you get the picture.

Have been working non-stop on it for the past two week and loving it.

Have found a huge amount of information on this site and thanks to those members who have helped me so far in the "Bugs" section where I first posted.

With the stripes and numbers on the car I am now being accused of being a seventy year old boy racer.

Great to have you on here Ken. The 76 is a pretty rare model with the later floor pans but the flat screen still. Feel free to post as many pictures as you can and ask any questions you want and someone will chime in with some help if you need it.

This photo taken after a weeks work.

New headers and muffler, front torsion bar, shockers, a bit of rewiring, painting, rear brake work, etc.

Still plenty to do.http://www.example.com/image.jpg

G'day Ken!

That beetle used to be owned by a woman in Launceston called Josie. She sold it back in 2011 and traded it in on a van down in Hobart.

This car would always get confused for my beetle which is also a Herbie replica!

Glad to see it's found a good home.

Cheers Will.

Ps. Where abouts on Tassie are you?
