Yes, lots of rust - definitely a lot more there than what i thought when i first bought it!
Next time i buy a car to restore i definitely will be more pedantic about rust!
Anyway, wont be too much longer and the repair panels will be starting to go in!

Looking good Denver. Liking the way the bug hangs in the rafters.
At least once you cut the rust out you'll know its done right, not hidden under someone elses primer and filler.

Different but pretty cool :)

Oh, and I had an idea for the surface rust on the rest of the pan you'd stripped to bare metal. Rustbuster and those metal scouring balls/pads from household items in Woolies etc. Rustbuster in the paint isle at Bunnings. Wet the surface rust with the Rustbuster and leave for 30secs to a minute and then use the scour pads soaked in Rustbuster to scrub the surface rust away. Then use a clean rag to wipe the excess moisture away. Might be quicker than having to go over it with the drill/grinder again :)

So think its probably time to start to bring everyone up to date.
I have a kind friend who came over to my house with his welding gear after i got home from school and welded in my pan for me ~ finally!!
That night i got the edges all clean and squirted it with some primer.

Ok. Now for an update.
The next morning (saturday) I got out the Sikaflex 221 and got dad to do it for me - who did water proofing once as a job so he knows how to do it :).
When that was drying, i snuck upstairs and grabbed a green scouring pad from the kitchen. Pulled out the rust buster and started scrubbing on the tunnel - absolutely fantastic!
That brings us to Saturday afternoon when i mixed up some more Epoxy Mastic 121. Did a coat on the whole passenger pan, and the tunnel.

OK. Here is a pic of when is painted, still have to do the seat rail on the passenger side...
Then came sunday evening. Masked up the tunnel and the drivers pan.

Out with the satin black on monday - then POP!
Monday afternoon came quickly once a few coats had been done on the tunnel...

In goes the newly painted master cylinder, and out comes the pedal assembly box... heck... how did this thing go again???
Finally got that in using the original parts, then i will have to install the pedal assembly repair kit i bought.
Then i saw the fuel filter was quite dirty, so i grabbed a new one i had in stock, and on it goes.

Cheers all,
Denver

Looking good there :)

When you finally go to put the seats in it's a good idea to sand the paint from the top of the runners and go down to about 1200 with the wet n dry. Then lube em with a bit of white lithium grease. The paint can otherwise make the seat grab instead of slide :)

Yay! Update time!

Got the camber compensator off, and stripped back into pieces.
Got it all painted, and assembled back together again.

Next we decided it was time to get the engine back out.

Engine is out. The flywheel has obviously been scraping on the bell housing unfortunately, so that will have to be cleaned up again...
Excuse the poor pictures...

Then it was time to pull the gearbox and replace the front mount.

Once that was one, my younger brother started to strip down the engine... :)

Then i got the old front sway bar off to put the new thicker one on. The new bar came with urethane bushings, but the smaller clamps are too wide to fit between the lips on either side . So will have to work this out sometime soon :borg:

I added a pic of how the larger ones fit ?!

You can buy a heavy duty roll bar clamp kit that would come with the urethane bushes or just get hold of some 1.5mm steel and make your own :)
