Hope these ones work out for you as it's probably they way I should have gone on mine.
I used the same front bits you mentioned you returned.
I had issues where the captive nuts broke off in 2 places when I was putting the pan back onto the body.
Anyway, good work, hope your enjoying the process.

The captive nuts breaking free is a common problem with these cheaper quality channels. Was one of the reasons why I bought Hookys closing panels so I
didn't have this problem.

I found an Illuminated 'D' sign in a bulk parts lot i bought, so i put in a new bulb, and re-welded one of the threads on the inside, and cleaned it
all up. I then decided to try my hand at some fab work and made up a bracket for it. Had to weld it in a couple of places, then bend it, but came out
great when it was painted

I think they're kind of a universal channel.. 
So next my brother and i fabricated some panels for the peashooter holes.. Thanks to James - a.k.a. beetle_nut for donating some panels to us!
Cut out the outside of the old ones then tac'd them in - ok - it was a bit more than a tac!  Then primed it.
Then i pulled the roof rack out and wanted to do something just to make it look a little, say, different. I went digging through dads cupboard and
found some 'Walnut' timber stain. Gave the timber a light sand and a clean and stained them. Open to comments!

And as you can see above i put my decklid back on for now...
So i decided to get the number plate bulb assembly on too... I went digging through my spares and found a spare one with a better lens, gasket and
seal for the wire... Swapped it all over, my brother made up a new wire for me, and we put it on.

Oh, that sand lasted for about 3 minutes, so got some more grittier stuff

Nice job on the rear valance.
For some garnet grit there's a guy in Moorooka that advertises on gumtree. I've used him a few times and a 25kg bag only cost $25 plus a bit for
delivery. It's way cheaper than the supercheap stuff.

Nah, have a mate that does Sandblasting Equipment, he sold me a bag sand ages ago for a sand pit, then i remembered about it, so am sifting it out as
i need it

DO NOT use sand. It can give you silicosis of the lungs as the sand explodes against the surface being blasted it becomes extremely small particles
that even a good mask may not filter out. These small particles are high in silicon content and once in your lungs can give you silicosis of the
lungs.
They've tried changing the name to media blasting, since sand was found to have this medical problem, but it's been a struggle as many people still
think of it as sand blasting.
Anyway, best you stop using the sand plus the garnet does a better job of stripping than the sand.

Hi Denver
YES do wear a minimum Class P1 mask which will offer you adequate respiratory protection when sandblasting. Sand contains Silica (quartz) which can
lead to silicosis over a long period. Make sure the P1 mask has 2 straps and a metal nose piece to shape around your nose for a good seal. You don't
have to worry about being clean shaven yet 
Note: a P1 mask protects you against mechanically generated particles and a P2 against mechanically and thermally generated particles. Buy a box of
P2's and use them when you're welding as well to protect against metal fume fever. Welding zinc and stainless is particularly nasty.

OK Thanks for the information! The "media" i am using is actually pink in colour, so maybe this is garnet grit? I might snap a
photo of it and post it on here...

Sorry for long-time no updates, so here we go.
Also gone back to attaching the photos again too.
Took the fuel pump spacer off and put the seals in the correct place, also painted it quickly too .
Then painted the dizzy clamp and re-installed. So here is what the engine is up to.
I also sandblasted the other tappet cover and painted it and the clip and installed, but didn't get a pic.

Then back to the passenger side, i cut out the hole, made up a panel and welded it up The left hand side is probably the neatest welds...

P3 on a decent 3M half face mask is best but for any type of fume you also need an A1 vapour filter. A1E1 is a good combo for most vehicle based
procedures with a P3. Look after your lungs especially being young as they're more susceptable to foreign matter.
Weldings going well altho is that the gasless wire you're using? That or the metal and area around the weld isn't clean enough so causes the blobby
welds which don't penetrate properly.

Yep, still on gasless, but just sold a bit of parts, so i think i have enough money for gas now ...

Heres the mask i'm using
Then here's the first cylinder tin i sandblasted and painted
And the drivers rear inner gaurd finished until I can get some L87 Pearl White mixed up and touch those edges up.
