BAJA BUG FARM FIND
HI,
can't upload pics right now, but whilst searching amongst bugs on a farm I found an old Baja Bug. She needs full resto as floor rotted, but its
complete. Only VIN I could get too had little info on it except under type it has VW1/11 and made in western Germany.
It looks pretty cool (has custom bonnet too) and going to have a closer look when the rain stops, but any idea on value? I will post pics soon, but
even just a range will help. The engine is complete but sat for ages and likely seized. Interior rotted away. rusted floors......sounds worse than it
looks LOL

The MKA number under the plates, Martin and King were the mob in Melb assembling the CKD kits up till the late 50s
I;m sure Phil could tell you exactly when they were bought out but I'm pretty sure it was 59-60

Value? You need to spend at least $10,000 on it. But if it means it wont rot into the ground you should grab it. Id say its worth less then $500 but
that's just an opinion.

Hi
The yellow bug in the background looks interesting, could be a 75 P&P model looking at the seats.
Not good that the window is wound down.

My first VW was a '72 Superbug, complete with the commemorative plaque on the glovebox lid, and the nasty wobbles at speeds in excess of 95kmh.
I have never driven a R&P equipped beetle, and Im sure it was a much needed improvement.
I just like to rag on the Strut guys, mostly due to some interesting dealings with a guy who was the pioneering champion of the strut bug here in
Australia.
I was also brainwashed by Jeff Unwin at the young and impressionable age of 17. Oh and lets not overlook Steve Carter's signature.

Joel is right, there's a MKA stamp number under the build plate. Martin and King were the Melbourne railway carriage makers who were contracted to
assemble the first Australian cars from German CKD kits, from mid-1954.
VW Australia bought Martin and King's automotive business and the assembly works at Clayton, in 1957. By 1959 the first Australian panels were
pressed in Melbourne, so the cars no longer had the 'Made in Western Germany' plate, replaced by a 'Volkswagen Australasia' tag. I think this car
can only be '58-'59, more likely early 1958.

Euro - all good mate, I've had both from 57 to 73 and appreciate both. Currently rebuilding a 72 s bug.
The superbug shimmy is pretty straightforward to get rid of - nolathane bushings go a long way - but you would know that already. Must've been cool
hanging out with Jeff Unwin at an impressionable age !!!! Could be worse eh ?

Those headlight surrounds are the same as the one I'm missing on my baja. Any idea where I could purchase one or a pair from?
