My new little beetle, a pretty little 66
Just picked this up two weeks or so ago. Need to get it relicensed, so I fiddled with the lights that needed a little clean to work, my hubby has been
busy changing the brake drums and bearings ( interestingly enough, they were 65's ), we are replacing the washer tubing, and cleaning it up....
Hopefully, the bellows won't need replacing with an electric version. Then we need to check what sort of voltage is getting through to the tail
lights. Sooo dim, even for a 6v. Also have been chasing down non-black seat belts, (one was OK, but the passanger's side was a sash only) for the
front to start with, then I'll get to replacing the black rear ones down the track. The horn needs re wiring to the steering wheel.... Stuff like
that we can take our time with. Pretty neat car, all up, although she has been resprayed at some point.

With those dull tail lights, just check they are not 12v globes (unless the car has been upgraded from 6v to 12v).

The bulbs were 6v, so we sanded all the connections, changed the brake switch...and voila... Brighter light..., yay! As for the washer, the bulb
wasn't bad, but wasn't airtight, so we changed all the tubing, cleaned the nozzle, and took a pump off a new universal electric kit. I got a 1-way
valve for in the bottle to keep the pump primed. My hubby adapted the old washer wiper switch to keep doing its thing. He took off the bellows, and
used what was left to be an earth breaker switch which connects when the nob is pulled as normal! Cool huh.
To the left is where it goes through the dash, and he is holding the nob. We powered the positive wire from the wipers to power the new motor, so it
forms the circuit.
I bought some new seat belts, we de-rusted the surface rust under the washer bottle, brake reservoir and spare tyre. Also, hubby painted with that
rubber paint for water proofing so it won't rust again, hopefully. Down the track, we will clean up the hood area, sort out the slightly messy
wiring, and paint the rubber paint to match the car

This is the wheel well with the black rubberised paint. We are leaving it black for now, until we want to clean up under the hood, etc.

I did something nearly identical with my washer switch, I moulded (with heat) a recess in the washer bottle so the pump fits in there, It looks like
your hubby is a bit of a genius |

Thanks, he did a great job on converting the nob/switch! His first idea was to mount a switch to the shaft, but that didn't work. It took a bit of
discussion to get the next idea, and plenty of trial and error, and swearing from my hubby to get it working.... It was my idea about the one way
valve to keep the pump primed (go me). So far so good, all working great!
