Soft drink can and a hose clamp, not pretty but good temporary solution.

If you can find them 1-7/8" welsh plugs are the perfect fit, just press in and dont even need fixing in place they are such a snug fit but its an odd size and not many places carry them.

Are you blocking the outlets because you are running J-pipes?

if you still have heaterboxes in place blocking the hoses off is the worst thing you can do, it will run hotter, heaterboxes need the shroud hoses in place.

Thanks for all the replies - a big help. I spent 2 hours trawling through Bunning but couldnt find anything - The only thing that was close in size were 50mm plastic (pool) plumbing cap but didnt purchse. Looks like an early

Removing the heaterboxes to replace with the recently purchsed vintagespeed exhaust and J pipes from said trip to VVW.

How do you all block off where the heater pipe goes into the body - a similar approach to above?

Dave or Joel, can you please tell me why if you leave heater boxes in place and disconnect hose from cooling tinware does it make the motor over heat.

I was thinking it would be the same as if you just had your heater box flap closed stopping air passing through them.

Benny, I think from memory the pipe that leads into fllorpan has the same size hole at the tinware. Well it does on my 61 beetle. So I would also try the welch plug in there and that is what I am going to have to do also.

Kev

I thought rebuilding a VW would be cheap - Shit I was wrong, just don't let the wife know !!!!

Global warming

I read it on samba, so it must be correct.

Sometimes Volkswagen dealers sell spare parts. Amazing isn't it!

Kev, inside the heaterboxes are alloy heat sinks moulded around the Jpipe designed to generate lots of heat.

The heaters are actually working all the time even when the lever inside is set to off, they have a bypass dump valve so when they are set to off the hot air is dumped under the car instead.

When you remove the air flow through them those heat sinks cant shed all that heat they generate and all it does is cook the engine.

People think they are improving the cooling by removing the air flow to the heaterboxes but they are actually making things worse.
