Non VW Engine Fire
Yep happens to other makes as well! Late-ish Nissan ute left parked, local lady visited a friends had a cup of tea and came back to an inferno,
ignition not left on!

I had a brand new one for a while in 2002, those 2.2 engines were the biggest turds
no where near enough power, with any sort of load they can barely move.
Had to get a new engine at 135K.

That's probably why they lightened it by removing the tray and the number plates, then the power to weight ratio is probably getting close to
adequate.
I dream of a day when a chicken can cross a road without being asked for it's motive!

My brother lost his Hyundai Getz recently to an engine fire, cruising along and it started to miss, then it cut out completely. Pulled off the road
and popped the bonnet, fuel everywhere. Went to the boot for his torch and by the time he got back to the A-pillar the whole lot went up, nearly
scorched the hair off his arm.

Same thing happened to a friend of the missus. Her Peugeot was just driving along the Tollway, and started dying, so she pulled into the emergency
lane, and within 30 seconds the front burst into flames, the scrub caught fire on the side of the road, the Fire brigage came quickly, because it was
on the tollway camera, and the whole plastic front of the car was disintegrated in minutes.

had a falcon burst into flames, the guy that bought it was loading it on the trailer. Switched it off and about 30 later after getting out of it it
burst into flames.
got my fire extinguisher. most useless thing!! did nothing to stop the fire, so I ran to the front of the property and got a hose ran back and
scrambled to get it hooked up to a tap.
Once I got water on what looked like a fuel fire it put it out quick smart.
The front of the car was F'd. in about 3 min max to looked like the pic above.
I have no idea how it burst into flames considering the engine only ran a max of 2 min to drive up the trailer and was still stone cold and the fact
it was off for half a min before it when whoosh!
Had my holden piss fuel out from the new aftermarket hoses on very cold mornings. The hoses shrunk due to the cold and made them loose but they were
super tight when at above 10ºc
So I used some genuine 22 year old hoses because they were better until I could find someone that sold descent brand EFI hose. Using codan hoses with
good results.
people make sure your hoses are good brand and use proper clamps of the correct size.

So would they be LPG cylinders like we use for gas stoves?

nah I reckon acetylene.
LPG bottles dont explode that violently, or explode at all as the pressure is relatively low. They just vent though the safety value most of the
time.
I have seen a video of an acetylene factory go up and the exactly same thing happen, bottles were blowing up with massive explosions and taking to the
sky like rockets.
Acetylene is under 10s of 1000s of PSI in them and its a highly volatile molecule and pretty unstable.
