My 73 Squareback R.I.P.
I got slammed by a P plater whilst sitting stationary in traffic yesterday afternoon. Not happy Jan!
At least I have comprehensive insurance with Shannon's and I get the wreck back to salvage what I can.
As for me, bruised and battered from where my legs hit the dash, and chest destroyed the steering wheel.
Bugger is, I had just picked up from the body shop after getting some work done last week, hence why it has no trim and badges fitted.

My 73 Squareback RIP
The offending vehicle was a Holden Rodeo tray back ute. Spoke to cops yesterday, he's off to court sometime soon.
Still don't have plans for the wreck yet, good old Shannon's have already released it back to me, so it's in the back yard waiting til I feel a bit
better!
Don't know how the pan faired, it may be usable, hope so, it was bloody rust free.

Good to see you are ok with that hit. As for the pan being ok I would think that now that Shannons have written it off that's it with that pan
number. Can't be registered in NSW again. Back in the 90s I had one with just right hand B pillar damage and even though repared I had to get work
certs from a licensed repairer to get it through the then RTA as the NRMA had listed it as written off. Those rules are now gone and there is no
such thing as a repairable write-off.

I was wondering who that unlucky vw owner was the other day coming out of work. It was POURING down that afternoon, odds are old mate in the ute
didn't even see you.
As for re registering, it wont be a problem. I went though this pretty recently with my van, the assessor pointed out that they leave massive
allowances for collectible cars.

But may be covered under this: http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/roads/registration/get-nsw-registration/written-off... but may be only if repaired by a licensed
repairer.
Maybe back to uneconomical as it does look a bad one.

Repairable write off
I spoke to the Shannon's assessor today. He said the current RMS laws regarding re-building a written off car only pertain to cars less than 15 years
old, and so long as the floor pan is not bent, it can be re-used and re-registered. And just for info, the remains are returned to the owner/insurer
on any vehicle over 35 years old, any younger they belong to the insurance company, unless negotiated when taking out the policy.

I haven't tried turning the motor over yet, I need to pull the rear sheet metal away from the engine and assess what the situation is.

Managed to remove the damaged bodywork, and cooling fan and housings. Before I pulled the extractors I off, I fired it up and thankfully she still
runs fine.

My new daily arrived yesterday, 71 Notch, overall pretty good, engine is a little oily so I'll end up transplanting the engine out of my Squareback.

The guy selling that notchback still has tha ad running on Gumtree.
Was a neat looking car and for the price I even considered buying it even though the notchback shape is not my favourite type 3 body style.

I got a good deal on it, had ran out of rego at the end of October, and the engine is tired, goes Ok but a bit smokey, but dead stock, even the
exhaust system. I even bet the engines never been out of the car!
I put a set of good rubber on it I had spare and it got through rego no problems, it drives well, needs a shift shaft bush, and thrust race. He had
new tie rod ends fitted, not ball joints like the add said.
Fortunately the core of my engine in the Squareback is Ok, so over the Christmas break there will be a bit of transplanting going on!

Sorry to see your Squareback totalled mate. Sucks to lose nice cars. Lost an original Scorpion a few years ago because of someone elses
inattention.
Nice pick up on the Notch though. Looks amazingly original.
Have fun getting it how you want it.
