Check fleabay Uk and UK aircooled forums for secondhand oil cooler parts.
Try to fnd some circuit racer contacts for second hand parts from them as can be dirt cheap.
Fibreglass kits are cheap at Bunnings so could make your own air scoop for the engine grills.
And a deep sump is my last idea
madness is in the eye of the beholder

Change regularly and keep clean engine oil up to full level and check weekly.
Keep the revs up and don't lug the engine by being in a high gear and low revs. Revs keeps the fan moving and cooling.

Fix everything back to factory specs that previous retards have tried to modify/delete.
I read it on samba, so it must be correct.
Sometimes Volkswagen dealers sell spare parts. Amazing isn't it!
