New user - Mid North Coast NSW

Hi everyone, I'm Andrew I live in Gloucester NSW and for the last 18months have had a 1971 vw beetle sitting in my carport doing not much at all!

Last week I decided to actually do something with it and am slowly working out my plan. It has all original wiring which has caught fire a few times by the look of it.. And a nice hole burnt in the backseat.. So wiring is where I'm starting...

The body has a little bit of rust on the back left hand panel and the top of the bonnet but that's it.. Paint work is in good condition and looks awesome on the panels I played with polish on.. The colour is clementine according to the sticker

Engine started first go after sitting in my dads shed for two years, and then first go again after 18 months in my carport.. Although the air box is full of oil and the hose that feeds oil into the air box seems to have lost its fitting.. Other then that it needs a new exhaust hose as its a bit perished..

Brake lights don't appear to work but the indicators do, and no low beam just high beam headlights and between 40-50mph the steering wheel shakes like crazy

Finally the bumpers are not in great nick but I hear there is a great place in Newcastle to get them re-chromed.

Back in the 60's my dad was a rally driver for VW so he is really excited to get it going with me.. I'm sure I will have a billion questions over the next few months.. My plan is to get it on the road in the next month or so

Good luck Andrew, one step at a time, you'll get it done.
Get yourself a good old workshop manual for your Bug, they can be useful.
I look forward to seeing some progress pictures over time.
Cheers, Rob.

Welcome to aussievedubbers Andrew you will find a lot of information and people ready to assist you in your project, set yourself a plan and try to stick to it otherwise you may find you suddenly have a money pit that devours every cent that you have and you may lose heart leaving it a partly finished project.I have used Hamilton Chrome quite a few times over the years and they did a great job on the bumpers on my Ghia.
If you need a seat let me know although this should be down the track a bit.
Cheers Les
