 1776 engine

Hi all. Just wondering what a decent 1776 would cost me for a beetle setup. Nothing over the top, just a good strong torquey motor.

Firstly it depends on what your starting with? Do you have a good twin relief valve crankcase? Theres $1000? for a new one. Do you have carbies and
exhaust? there's $1500?

If you were in Melbourne i would recommend John at Volks Home Automotive in Thomastown. I had a 1776 built, with lightened flywheel, 8 dowel
counterweighted crankshaft and Engle 110 cam, cost me $6750 plus another $1200 for a recod 1600 gearbox converted to swing axle. VERY smooth.
Currently running a single 35pict carb and standard exhaust, will definitely upgrade those in the near future.

Just a not on the good webber and carb setup comment.
Depending on what you have to spend of course but I run a 1776 in my bus.
It is still running the stock Solex Pic 34 (I think 34) carb and an old rusty fat boy style muffler.
Bus would be a couple of 100 kg more than a beetle I would guess and I often load it up pretty heavy. That happily gets me up places like Mt Tamborine
and will cruise at 110 on the freeway. It does lack a bit of top end power though for acceleration at that higher speed because the little carb does
not breath as well as a pair of Webbers would.
But it is certainly enough if you ind a car with a decent 1641 / 1776 drive it for a bit because you may not need to spend that extra $1500-ish.
