Not sure where to post this so thought I'd put it here. Saw this on ebay and thought someone here might be interested.

Gilmore sell the same thing but it's brand new and costs less and will work 1000x better than a 50 year old unit.

You would have to spend quite a bit of money on that system to make it operational again. The hoses would all need replacing, the compressor would need an oil change, plus a new shaft seal (assuming they are still available),and the reason for all this,is the fact that the refrigerant this system was running on (R12) was phased out years ago,and its replacement,(R134A) requires a different oil for lubrication (Polyol Ester Oil),as the old mineral is not compatible with R134A because it will not mix with it.The downside of Polyol Ester oil,is that it acts like a solvent in old systems, removing old built up grime and residues causing blockages in the system, but the major problem is it turns rubber into a black mush, hence the need for new neoprene based hoses and shaft seals.I noticed in Joels link that they have changed the compressor from the old reciprocating compressor to a rotary, which is a good move,as those old York, and Techumseh compressors were also used on Ford Fairlanes and LTD's,and were quite capable of running a small walk in cold room,so very much overkill for a VW.
So nutshell whoever purchases it will be up for another $500-$1000 to get it to do its thing,Joel's option is much more viable,if you want Air Conditioning.
