Fly wheel question


Hi all, I recently removed my type 3 motor and took the fly wheel off to replace the rear main seal as it was leaking the only thing is that I forgot to mark the flywheel position before I removed it and when I installed it I now have vibration issues through the gears. Question, is there a way to know which position to put it back on it is a 4 dowel flywheel without trial and error as that would be very time consuming . Also I have another 1600 type 3 engine that requires a rebuild is there any recommendations as to where I can get this done in melbourne or someone that would be willing to reuild the engine for me doesn't has to be a shop or anything like that just some one that knows their stuff and I would be looking at getting a 1776 built.

unless the motor has been balanced as in a high performance application they go back in any 4 positions

Thanks for the feed back. It is not a performance engine and I doubt it has been balanced. I have torqued it more than spec. Coold I be low on transmission oil I did notice there were cracks in the drive shaft boots. Would that have any affect on the engine vibrating under load.

Have a good look at the engine mountings,the drive shafts may have crap in them and the balls are jamming ( but unlikely) Is the engine missing? Did the clutch pressure plate sit all the way home?

Are all four engine bolts secured fully?

Could be a badly aligned clutch plate, stick friction plate springs or slight contamination of the friction surfaces.

Finally got a chance to have a quick look today and noticed that the number three cylinder is not firing properly so am going to address that and change the spark plugs and adjust the tapetts and hopefully that was the problem. On the case of the clutch plate I did use a clutch aligning tool that I bought from repco so I am pretty sure it is aligned correctly.
