74 kombi Project

Hi ALL
Questioning my sanity.....
Just picked up a 74 kombi for a couple hundred bucks, only had beetles before so it's time for some basic questions..
The previous owner had connected an ignition switch separate to the one on the column as they had lost the key....
Do kombis have a steering lock, as I can turn the steering wheel with no problems..

Also when trying to start it does turn over very slow, is there anything other than a crappy battery that could cause this..

Any body have a workshop manual that would cover this model they would like to sell?

Thanks, Chris.

My 74 has no steering lock. Could have a bad Earth, flogged bearings in the starter. Check you got 12 volts at the starter

Thanks for the clues, but decided to flip it....already gone.
Ended up just being a crapped out battery, once running went well for a 15 year sitter.....

You mean you sold it?

How much did you get for it

200 bucks sounds like a bargain price you paid

Yeh, she gone.
Got Just under 2k for it. New owner said he'll park it for a year or so, only wanted the transmission.
He was happy , I was happy. Wife was happier
Rust was it's enemy and time to do the job was mine..
