72 Single cab

Decided to use alloy door pulls to avoid the inevitable breaking of the plastic ones.
Quick coat of reconditioning black gloss paint for the armrests.

Nice work.

Buying a motor off ebay is a real lottery...

Lucky this turned out OK

I noticed that there was excessive auto oil every time I started and moved it.
So, after a call to the auto magician, Aaron, it was on the trailer and up to the Gold Coast for a visit to the doctor.
Auto out and a new sleeve on the torque converter and a new seal. Picked it up a week later and all is good.
No oil leaks.

Finally found a molding that would suit.
Ordered 9 metres of it from Ulrich Newcastle, delivered a few days later so on it goes.
This has a provision for a centre plastic mold so will look into that.

Found these great Perspex wind and rain deflectors on line.
They fit in seconds with no clips or tape.
Just tap them up into place.
They work well.

It's like getting to the grand final when the 'blue slip' time comes and you wonder if it is good enough for a result.
Flying colours passed.
Number plate chosen as in VW, year model 1972, wife's initials BL and beach scene for our local Yamba beaches.
Only later realised that the BL could be for Bay Lowlight, so bonus for that.

Well, a few parting pics and then ''that's all folks''.
Thanks for following the journey.
It's nice to know that there are interested people out there.
It was 12 months nearly to the day from buying it on Ebay to getting the number plates on it.
Loved all the hard work and now enjoying cruising around town.
Might let the missus drive it occasionally as it is/was for her.
It drives so well.
Very quiet with all the insulation I put in it.

Now, what's next?

Thanks hpnotch.
A little feedback makes it all worthwhile.
I've really enjoyed the resto and looking forward to the next one.
