Re-Chroming

Hey fellow dubsters,

I am wanting to bring my external shiny bits back to their original lustre. Mainly the front and rear bumpers and door handles and decklid t-handle.

I'm in north Brissie and was wondering if anyone knows of, and has used, someone in my neck of the woods?

Also, are there any 'gotchyas' I need to be aware of?

Any advice would be good.

Cheers.

I would recommend Queensland chrome plating , 423 Wondall Rd Tingalpa , http://www.qldchromeplating.com.au.
I searched all over Brisbane for work, for a chrome plater and this guy does really good work. Small operation but he follows the right processes.

Queensland chrome plating X2.
Here's their work on my type 3 bumpers.
Not cheap - at least $500 per bumper , but they will repair and straighten before chroming.

DieCast Wizard in Nerangba did a good job on my rear view mirror stem so they'll be a good bet for the door handles n such like. $90 all up per item.

QLD plating quoted me about $800 per bumper from memory. Does the proper 'triple' plating process but $330 from Vlad. Holy cow!!! Even with shipping by E-Go I'd say that's a sweet deal :)

yeah thats thick as all hell triple plate process. They said to be careful with tightening the bolts as their plating is that thick it won't bend with the steel and can crack.

they even have type 3 late bumper jigs and dollys which just shows the experience they have. Late type 3 out of all cars. I was surprised!

they even do the moraro, falcon GT and just about any aussie muscle plastic interior face plates that have the chrome piping, edging.

To be able to chrome plate selective areas of platic takes some skills and knowledge.

here is mine.

Real good chrome plating is not cheap. We got all the chromework done for a 1956 Jaguar XK140. Over $6000 to get it done.

Yes and no on that. I'm not surprised plating is cheaper in Vic compared to Qld just cause more competition and more need in Vic than Qld. Well and Qld is generally more expensive for many things

But a quality job is generally gonna cost you.
