Saw it, each to their own I suppose, the vehicle itself looks OK. I don't see $202,000 in it though!
There is a registered lowlight in carsales for 30 grand which I like the look of more.

And it made the news on NBN , there goes that hobby!!
That is a very rare Kombi 23 widow walk through only 3 or 4 came to Australia . But the price is luny.
It sold on eBay about 5-6 years ago complete needing a full resto for $34K had a claimed $100 K resto.
So it was worth lots seemed most of the bidders felt 140 - 150 was the ball park as there was good bidding up to there then it was left to two money
bags who fought it out and thats how auctions work.
One sold in England on Friday for 120 K it was a 55 23 window in amazing condition with a camper interior that was probably a truer reflection of
their value.
Someone said It was owned by the owned of golden breed and had SGLFIN Number plates.

I heard it wasn't such a good resto and when the guy I know checked it out (an experienced quality Vee dub guy) it was for sale for over 100k and it
wouldn't have passed a road worthy....apparently it was purchased by a phone bidder....I wonder if he has ever driven a splittie?

Certainly looks like this one from Nats 2014

A 55-year-old Volkswagen Kombi went under the hammer in Melbourne this week for a staggering $202,000, setting a new auction record in Australia –
and perhaps the world – for Germany's humble hippy van.
Once the preserve of hippies looking for cheap transport, the Kombi now enjoys a more mainstream cult following, with many models becoming highly
collectible."We had over five phone bidders, several floor bidders and a couple of online bidders," Mr Boribon said.
Bidding opened at $100,000 before the packed showroom, and climbed to $150,000 within 10 minutes.
"There was quite a lot of commotion in the room once it reached $150,000," Mr Boribon said.
"The bidding slowed down from there, but it kept going back and forth until it reached $202,000."
The winning bid was placed by a buyer over the phone, and the new owner wants to remain anonymous.
"We believe the van is going to stay in Australia," Mr Boribon said.
"It definitely is an auction record in Australia for a Kombi."
Last year a battered old Kombi in need of a full restoration sold at auction for $30,000.
In late December, a restored Kombi camper sold for $74,000 at auction.
"There has certainly been a renewed interest and following in Kombis," Mr Boribon said.

Maybe if it was original and unrestored in that condition I could see one getting that kind of insane price but that just blew my mind.

The fully restored 1960 Volkswagen Kombi '23 window' Deluxe Microbus Photo: Supplied.
A restored VW Kombi bus was sold for a cool $202,000 in Melbourne on Monday night.
The 1960 Volkswagen Kombi Deluxe Microbus attracted frenzied bidding at the Shannons Auctions in Cheltenham, auction manager Christophe Boribon
said.
"It was beautifully restored," Mr Boribon said. "And it got a great result, absolutely."
Only a handful of the split-window Deluxe Micro Bus made it onto Australian roads, he said. The one sold at auction on Monday had undergone a
$100,000 restoration over five years.
