Blown 1600 or just put twin carbs on?
Hi all
I'm looking to undertake a bit of a project on my '70 1500. I'm not sure which way to go with the engine build. Here are my options:
1: I have started to get bits together for a supercharger install. So I'd get 1600 P&Cs, port the standard heads, and run supercharger at low
pressure through the Dellorto sidedraft I have rebuilt.
2: I also have a pair of IDF40s so I could put them on the with the 1600 P&Cs, do the head work and leave it at that.
The charger will be more expensive to do but a really fun project and awesome noise! Twin carbs easier and cheaper and possibly less strain on the
engine?
The goal for the bug is to have a daily driver with a bit of pep but running standard Trans. The personal goal is to learn and enjoy messing around
with my beetle. Breaks n suspension already upgraded.
Thoughts?

If you need to buy the 1600 p/c I would get 88mm slip in case machine at heads, w110, 8.5:1, done heads, twin carbs, merged exhaust.

Thanks guys. As this is my first build and I'm hesitant about splitting the case but will do if the benefits are really worth it.
So what about 88mm slip in, machine heads, twin IDFs and merged exhaust?
Any recommendations as to where to source components from. Found these:

Those are the p/cs mate, you don't need to split the case and run stock cam but won't get maximum output and torque, merged 1-3/8 or 1-1/2 exhaust
or Vintage speed system is needed.
A number of local suppliers will be able to assist with parts or you can get the lot from Aircooled.net
