Gerty Brake Upgrade question
Have decided on Stan Pobjoy motor for Gerty, which means the engine number will remain, and I get a reliable daily driver that will spin wheels!!!
I have contacted German Motors in QLD to go through my gearbox and sort it for the extra power. Now moving on to brakes and I have a question:
- I want to leave the 4x130 stud pattern, but would like to go ventilated brakes (possibly) and 4 or 6 pot calipers. Is there a kit that I can buy to
simply replace what is there? All of my searches come up with 5 stud options, but nothing for the 4x130s that I want to keep.
I am not going drop spindles either, slightly lowered standard ball joint front end, 08/1970.
Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

your standard brakes would be fine - maybe Type 3 drums on the rear
That said - nothing "bolts" on
Porsche or there are some people that do a ford disc bot a lot of work for not much gain
most mods will effect your wheel offset too
Futue te ipsum!!!

You can get kerscher vented rotors that are a direct replacement for the standard rotors, they do not increase the track and use the standard
bearings, you can get them in a wide variety of PCD's or undrilled , I have a set on my Ghia with a 5 x 130 PCD and six spot callipers, all
engineered, these were a direct replacement on a ball joint spindle and is a common mod in Europe and the UK. you could also machine a set of spacers
for the standard calliper and use these with the vented rotors. http://www.csp-shop.de/cgi-bin/cshop2/front/shop_main.cgi?func=det&wkid=6... you could run the complete kit then upgrade to
a six spot calliper later, works great on my Ghia, http://www.csp-shop.de/cgi-bin/cshop2/front/shop_main.cgi?func=det&wkid=6...

Is it a Beetle? A cheap upgrade is early twin pin Type 3 calipers, they have larger pistons and bolt on, ps make sure they are the ones with a single
bleed nipple, twin bleed nipple ones are Beetle sized, 40 rather than 42 mm

Gerty is a Type 3 Squareback. Maybe the standard disc fronts are enough then, but I will have a look at the Kerscher rotors.
Cheers

Just renew m/c and rubber lines then get the best pad material you can buy. Trial that. You shouldn't have any issues. Oh and rear w/c. Overhaul
front calipers only if needed

Ok so rear wheel cylinders have been done, front pads are new and calipers seem to operate fine. I am waiting on some info about braided lines, and
will get a new m/c as well. Guess I will see how they go before making any decisions about upgrading further.
Thanks all for your insights.

Update on Gerty brake situation:
I have bought another Square (1971 original 40,000 miles with service history etc. Brilliant original car with an untouched pan, and never had a
panel off (Name is Helga)). Because of this I have decided to take Gerty down another path.
I have purchased from Airkewld drilled rotors with 5x114.3 stud pattern, and updated rear drums with the new stud pattern. Will use the originals on
Helga as they are in need of attention.
I have also ordered a Mamba shifter from them, so looking forward to that.
Gerty will be coming off the road end of August with motor off to Stan Pobjoy, gearbox off to Queensland for a refurb.
Really looking forward to October and summer with Gerty sorted!!!
