Will check, have been trying to sort out a few issues. Replacing flywheel due to stripped teeth and they have different faceplates to mount up. some internal machining on flywheel required. I'll get the KO number shortly :-)

KO #

I rechecked the original eBay listing.
Ad text states the CB is KO 402.
It didn't sell.
Ended: 16 Jul, 2015 19:30:27 AEST
bid: AU $11,699.00
Reserve not met
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/RARE-CLASSIC-VW-AUSSIE-COUNTRY-BUGGY-/121699469256...

Relisted: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/-/111719486262?
Ended: 17 Jul, 2015 06:58:21 AEST
bid: AU $10,000.00 [ 0 bids ]

I would assume you bought this directly from the seller, outside of eBay, right?
Did you get it for less than the last listed price?

Steve

I think I paid a fair price for the CB. It is a nicely put together unit and considering the cost of panel and Paint these days she is a beauty. Just have to customise her a little to suit my tastes.

Hi Crash55

That paint job and upholstery looks like $15k alone and the body looks dead straight too. Wish they all looked as good ( including mine ).

Congratulations on a great buy and good luck with it - Paprika's my favourite colour too.

Thanks Gary, I can't take credit for much just yet, but will do very soon as I tweak it here and there.

New wheel cylinders and Brake hoses now fitted as well as transaxle boots. Last ones were installed incorrectly so they split open almost instantly :-(

New flywheel had to be machined to fit and the correct starter motor fitted as it had a 12 volt on a 6 volt flywheel and that stuffed the ring gear.

So now for the number she is as some may have already pointed out KO402.

Cheers

Chris

CB

Chris,

Awesome body work - did we ever clarify if it had the original running gear as the stance and photos tend to it being on a beetle pan ie does it have the reduction hubs on the rear and the CB front spindles.

Mine is army green originally and still in great condition but when the time comes to give it some love it will be hard to resist the red.

Whereabouts are you located btw.

Cheers

Peter

Hello Peter,

In Adelaide mate.

Just trying to sort the Gearbox out actually.

Having trouble selecting second gear very sloppy in the nose cone of the gearbox.

Yes she has reduction boxes and the correct front end.

Overhauled all the brakes, so hopefully if I can get the gearbox sorted we are in action. Do you know if the reduction hub gearbox can be swapped for a beetle box and change over the Reduction hubs?

Chris

Way past the coupler issue is in the nose of the box, everything prior to the selector on the box has been replaced :-) Thanks Bizarre.

Well, I have to agree.......this CB is asthetically a AAAA++++.
Definitely a 110% resto job. Simply dazzling!
Best all of us have seen in some time, eh?

Checked The CB Register to see if KO 402 was listed.
Check.

Details on The Register:
402, 118310314, SEAFORD SA, BEIGE, FAIR, WHITE.BEETLE PAN WITH CB HUBS AT REAR. UNDER RESTO

Some resto pics are here:
http://www.volksculture.com/photo/albums/ko-402
Seems this album is do for an update with all the new pics!
Looks like maybe it has a new engine bonnet???
Via cb john perhaps?

Regards,
Steve

Buyer beware. She looks a million dollars but mechanically it is a lemon.

Engine is seized, gearbox is stuffed. Wheel cylinders all stuffed all brake hoses stuffed. Flywheel stuffed, Swing arm boots stuffed, Reduction box clunking and so on and so forth.

I will now look at swapping out the chassis and put something in that I can drive for a while. I will then work on the original CB chassis and eng and box and get it going again. So just beware yes you can polish a turd. Thanks To Tony Beven I am sure his advice will point me in the right direction but for now the dream of running her around for the Community Radio Station and other events will have to wait. On the positive side well ……………….. It has a good battery :-)

donor

That sucks mate - have a look for a complete donor that is the cheapest way to go. I picked up a good beetle on ebay recently for $600 with excellent engine and gearbox- it just had a crap body but even then it was repairable. That will get you on the road and you can tend to restoring the mechanical bits along the way. They come up frequently on gumtree as well - just be patient otherwise you may find yourself collecting lemons.

Good luck with it..

The Buyer Beware saga :-)

Hi everyone,
Brisdubber was on the right track and I sourced another bug to get me running for the time being. Basically the body is good, Note the word good. Mechanicals are a pile of poop and so a swapped was the short term answer. The pictures tell the story so far and hope to have it running for the SA Volksfest end of the month.

Picture one show the corner metal fabrication to allow the engine bay to be sealed off. No teal was originally fitted back on the body.

The picture quality is fine. You just need to look at your pics before you post them. Editing my be required in the form of "rotating" until you achieve the look you want or which is normal, and then saved in that mode.......then posting.

Pics are usually initially shown in the direction they were taken. So, if you have turned your camera sideways for a more inclusive shot of your subject matter, that's the way it will be displayed on your computer. Changing the orientation by "rotating" is the only way to correct that before posting.

your donor pan is a balljoint one......you are going to have problems at the rear mounting points when you go to fit the CB body onto it.
