As long as you can use skinny springs they are the way to go for wheel clearance, very tunable with a wide choice of shock brands and spring choice

74 bug. I know I am probably not going to fix it but I am trying to get rid of those horrible wobbles the Supers get..... Doesn't happen often enough
to track it down so working on one thing at a time. Steering components,.shocks, steering box. Tyres and balance are good, alignment good?.

I found the thing that stopped the shimmy on our S Bug was putting new Urethane bushes in the swaybar. The swaybar holds the lower arms laterally
also. Inexpensive thing to try. Also set the toe-in to 1.5mm

Ive done all sorts of thinks to fix the shimmy, I think one of the courses is that the springs are too soft

It was suggested that I put some weight in the front which I tried and it seemed to work but with the inconsisancey of the wobble it was hard to say
if it worked. I have the opportunity of getting a floorpan with rack and opinion steering, does anyone know if the bodies are interchangable. Haven't
had a chance to sight it yet to compare.. I am thinking the floor in the boot area could be different were the steering collumn meets the box ???

yes fit a Luddite front end that will fix it and your headlights are much too bright so convert the car to 6 volt
My son has a 2 bolt 74 bug with skinny VVDS struts, at one time it had a worn drag link, worn ball joint and has always had a worn steering damper
bush with no shimmy, I sure its the heavier front coils

I had them struts from VVDS on my old super and it still had the shimmy due to worn sway bushes incidentally, they are very sensitive to worn bushes
rubbers etc, after replacing everything consumable in the front end my shimmies went away, and shit it handled! No other changes apart from widened
steelies and gas monroes at the back and I'd had the car on two wheels many a time! The new buggy doesn't handle anywhere near as good, not that I
expected it too with the off road tyres and floaty beam suspension!
It will all be OK in the end, if it's not OK it's not the end!

Have fitted 3 sets of the cheap & cheerful Empi adjustable struts over the last few years. Great value for money at around $220 for the whole kit.
Uses original springs so still has the same amount of travel. No complaints.
