Funny how this question is often the first question asked even by people that arnt in the market at times and it seems to be asked only to denigrate whats on offer.

Yes there are some "Gun" engine builders out there but in reality they have failures also and there are many enthusiasts that are able to build top notch donks.

I also recon there are more important questions such as what components were used , what machining was done what cam what heads valves ports? etc etc.

Nothing personal empi ( if you search ""who built it " there are pages of them ) you may be in the market but I doubt you or anyone know everyone that is capable of putting together a reliable engine and even if it is from a name builder there is no guarantee on a secondhand engine.

The strongest smoothest donk I have ever had was built buy some unknown guy in South Africa. I have an industrial 1600 SP that is all german and low hours and its not as smooth it was built by Hans in Wolfsburg.

Yes undeniably if you are told this is built by RP or DB or SP or WP or PD or some other recognised builder it will give you a warm feeling but I recon that about all you can guarantee. In the end the beauty of these little engines is that they are simple and easy to understand thats one of the reasons we are attracted to them.

Fair question I reckon....(not sure why unrelated parties are so sensitive about legit questions). So...

Who built/rebuilt it?
How many kms? (If the rebuild was only top end and not the original 1835 build, how many kms on the bottom end?)
A bit more info re: components? Cam, head specs any ancillaries (apart from the Webers)?

Cheers

Adam.

And yes, I am in the market for the right engine at the right price.

Not sensitive just curious why unrelated parties ask the question?

It is definitely a fair question to ask but in isolation its not a good one. There are other more educated and more revealing questions to ask like some of the ones you just did Adam .

Sorry to hijack this post at least you are getting bumped. Good luck with the sale.

Just to take this thread in a totally new direction, and give the op another bump, are/were you running the industrial 1600 SP in anything and, if you are/were, what are your experiences with it?
Very interested as I have one with 47 hours on it and looking to put it in a split window kombi. Please pm me if this is not the right place to have this discussion - many thanks

Pretty sure if you were interested in the engine you would contact the seller direct to discuss it further instead of winging, whining and complaining here....who built it, who built it..........seriously.....................

Faark, sorry was just asking the question as the advertisement was very vague and this seller is local to me, i have worked in the Vw industry and know a lot of the people that build engines down here in Victoria.
Thanks Waltermitty for butting in, i am in the market for a new motor, i am sure this seller would appreciate your input as i am sure you are affiliated with them and can see that you are helping their sales campaign.

After you valid input i have decided to buy a motor from overseas.

Sorry for not responding sooner, I've been really busy.

Engine was built by Mark from imported Springvale.

I bought it off his mate, which I spoke to the other day to get some info about it, this is what he remembers;

041 heads
10:5:1 compression
1835 barrels and pistons
Twin 40mm idf webers
009 Bosch distributor
External oil cooler
Lightened flywheel
2400 pound Kennedy clutch
High volume oil pump

Parts needed to get going: exhaust, plugs and leads

Open to offers.

Perhaps interested parties should call or text me
