Camshaft for Dave
This should be interesting.......
No really, I am genuinely intrigued at what people would pick.
OK, I have 3 cams in the shed, it's going into a 1584. After a chat with some older VW guys I know (rellies), 2 rekn my choice is too big and 2 rekn
it's piddly small and 1 said " Who cares? Just make it go!", so I thought I would see what YOU would pick.
This is purely to suit the engine revs I normally sit on, carbs/heads/exhaust/compression etc all has a bit of bearing, but it's mainly to pick a cam
to suit the revs.
I sit on the highway ALL DAY at between 3200 - 3500rpm, I get below 3000rpm for 2 mins twice in my hourly commute, and need a bit of top end up to
maybe 5500rpm to get around grain trucks with 2 trailers.........and escape from crazed loony mums in 3ton Landcruisers. It only hits idle when it's
started, then never again until it stops.
I'm guessing the FK87 might be a bit big.
So then I have one that has 232*@.050" or one that has 250*@.050". Both can be used with stock rockers for stock heads, or bounced up to 1.4s to
suit 40x35.5 hi-flow stuff if I want.
OR........
What duration would YOU pick?
Bench racing for a New Year.
PS That FK87 in a 1641 with a centremount had ATTITUDE!

Under normal circumstances I would choose the 232 degree cam,
but you being a bike guy, go the 250 and bump up the comp a tad.

Hey mate, hope you had a good Xmas/NY.
Hhmmm, that was sorta my plan actually. In the big smoke I'd pick the 232* every day, but not out here perhaps.
I could always buy another I guess. Web 163? 218/119? FK42? Norris 330 (haha! Again!).
