Windscreen wipers is there 2 different sides
Initially my wipers were on the drivers side of the jets, but since the new nose has been fitted, they are now on the passenger side- this obviously
moves the whole motor assy over and now it fouls on the air intake box. Can i buy a different wiper assy to work on the 'other' side as such?

Perhaps the new nose was for a Left Hand Drive vehicle?

Unfortunately it is looking that way!! To redrill and fill the other hole now is a major pain in the butt- id rather go with the 'other' style
mechanism if avail- i have seen on a couple of other kombi's the holes on the same side that mine are now.
Ie these 2

There is a left hand park and a right hand park mechanism, from memory they changed to meet the RTA standards for blind spots in the drivers vision
area.

It's an Australia only thing.
I read it on samba, so it must be correct.
Sometimes Volkswagen dealers sell spare parts. Amazing isn't it!

Early bays as shown in many photos above were basically designed for LHD vehicles and wipers were not altered for RHD vehicles until around 74.
Hence if you have a late bay you probably bought a Brazilian bay front panel as they are cheap and readily available still and these are design for
LHD vehicles so the wiper holes will be on the wrong side. You need to either drill new holes and weld up the old ones or get the plug grommets OR you
but an early bay wiper mechanism and wipers. Note the early bay wipers are angled specifically for LHD vehicles so your old wipers wont work.
A few decisions to make there.

Mmmm....yes, the wiper assemblies. If you go to VW shows or see a collection of Kombis in the one place you will notice the wipers are random. Many
Kombis had front panels that would accept either hand, the unused one simply had a rubber grommets to fill the extra holes. Our Kombis are a mixture
of LH and RH park, the ones where we had to replace the fronts are RH park (for LHD vehicle) but two are still original fronts and one is LH the other
RH park (78 & 79 models).
My advice, source the correct unit for your nice new front, trying to fit the opposite ends in tears.
Cheers
