Hi all from Adelaide
Hey all. I've been sniffing around here a little bit looking for a car so thought I'd drop in and say hi.
I actually found one last Saturday but because the bank lost some paperwork then sent the wrong forms out then... well you get the idea.....So I gotta
wait until this Saturday to pick it up.
I've never owned a Volksy but always had a soft spot for the olive green Type 3 Squareback my mate's mum used to own. She let me drive it a few
times and I was hooked. I thought it was hilarious that you had to lean on the door when you drove it because the pedals are all the way over that
left side and the steering wheel is over here... That was about 15 years ago and I've wanted one ever since.
So up until recently I've been on motorbikes full time. I've barely driven except to band practice each week. Before that I owned a bunch of Alfa
Romeos and some other things that were more or less run down old taxis. I restored a CX500 over the last 7 years then ended up selling that recently
to build a rumpus room. As things came along with the rumpus room and I started to see that I was finally gonna have a place to put my guitars and
play a bit of music, I started thinking about getting out there and playing more gigs. Basically getting back into that stuff I've always loved
doing. That meant we needed a second car. And I'd be stuffed if I was buying another 250,000km old ex taxi.
So my second bike is now up for sale and I had a choice of three cars on my wishlist: Escort panel van, Gemini wagon (both of which I owned at one
point and loved) or a type 3 Squareback.
I got wind of a Type 3 a local musician was thinking of selling a few weeks ago and I took the other half out to see it. It had rust as you'd expect
but my missus fell in love with it.
From that point I wasn't allowed to look at anything else apparently.
I popped out to see another one last weekend and we've done a handshake deal on it. I know that there'll be some immediate things to do when it
gets home but that's half the fun I reckon - the car and me getting to know each other.
So I'm not going to count my chickens as yet because of bank and work and teeing things up to buy it. I don't get the keys in my hands till
Saturday, but if it all falls through I'll let you all know so I can find another one. If not I'll take a few shots, pop it in my avatar and chuck
a thread up.
Great site by the way, helped me go in there with a good idea what to expect.
Cheers

Thanks folks.
I'll get some photos up this weekend. I have some now but I don't have the keys and haven't handed over the cash yet so I'll hold back for
now.
Cheers

Ha!
I ordered a few parts today and heard the news I thought I was going to which is that the carbs on this car just aren't that great. I had read
whispers here and there that the empi webers weren't the best thing around and the fella I ordered the gaskets and that from straight up says he
won't sell them anymore. Oh well, it runs now so it'll do but something to keep in mind. I reckon there'll need to be some planning around
getting this engine back to some stock carbies and intake setup eventually. I mean the stock stuff works well and has for decades so why not,
right?
3 more sleeps....

Thanks, I reckon I will too. One more sleep to go. Thankfully I'm playing a gig tonight so the time will pass quickly.

I picked it up today. Already found the exhaust was stuffed. Picked up another one locally and fitted it today. Some other significant work to do
moving forward before I'm happy to use this as a daily. I'll pop a build thread up at some stage.

Hi all, I've had the car on the road for a full day now. I figured I'd pop up a thread with what I've been up to if anyone is interested.
