Project German Look. (and stock 1303)
Hi All,
Might as well add both builds to this thread.
Anyone who knows me knows I normally only do early stuff and between working on 2 x 54's currently, it is what I enjoy working on most but I've had
a secret desire to build a fatty "German Looker", (I must be getting old), for a few years now. Myself and a friend recently stumbled across a 1975
L bug in a barn, Yes "barn find" way North of Adelaide where a flock of geese were happily residing and making themselves comfy. we pulled the poor
old girl out and have taken it home to give it a new life free of geese.
Being a 75 it has the rack and pinion steering so we're looking forward to doing a Beetle that drives somewhat normally and doesn't have a narrowed
front end.
The car is reasonable with rust in the usual spots but heater channels are good. Both floors pans are shot as are front and rear aprons. I will be
putting new aprons on and pulling the body off next week.
I've got a few pics here where it has been started to be stripped, I did have one of it in the barn but I accidently deleted it. Anyway i'll keep
them coming as progress and time allows.

Relatively rust free "C" pillars. I know its Unbelievable!
As a side project see below, not same car as in this thread but belongs to same guy.
Although in saying that im doing a 75 L bug for a friend and his had a small spot about 6mm round in one side and rust free the other side. His car
is really nice and straight, only had rust in drivers A pillar, needed a new front and rear apron and deck lid as it had a minor engine fire but that
was about it. Here's a pic of his car as we take it to the paint booth last week.

Some update pics.
Body now off as you can see. Floors were rooted and have been cut out ready for new ones. I'm putting the earlier (non 3 point mount) and in and
fitting earlier seats. Unfortunately it doesn't have the original single side plate box but this one works for now.

Project German Look
The pans have been replaced as have all the relevant cables and pipes. New Heavy Duty pans from Das Resto. Very good quality.
The body on the other hand is not without its issues. Nothing that cant be sorted just more time I don't have.
Stay tuned.
Cheers
Paul

Rust, Rust and more Rust.
Why is that im working on a 54 that has a rust free pan and this 75 1303 is like Swiss cheese. Goes to show the change in build quality and materials
used over the years

Thanks for the comments. The pan is painted with Epoxy enamel in Satin Black. The finish is due to the thickness and quality of the pans. German

German Looker
The German Looker took a step backwards recently when the body, hat was left of it, came back from the blasters. It was decided that due to the 50+
rust holes it wasn't economically viable to continue with that body. Unfortunate because it was a 75 with rack and pinion steering. The floorpan
was salvaged and new halves were welded in.
A friend came to the rescue with a 74 L which luckily had a good body but stuffed floor pan so now i'll mate the 75 pan to this new body and continue
with the build. To the people in the know, yes I will weld a nut on the frame head for the steering damper. LOL!
Here's a couple pics of the new body. coincidently Citris Red too. I like this colour and I think with the black 17" Porsche rims I have and
blacked out bumpers and trim should look the part.

Good stuff mate, I'm also going down this path for a 69 German looker. Body off pan ready for bladders this week. Hope the body doesn't come back
like your Swiss cheeser! Keen to follow your build. Also in Adelaide.
