Running hot on right hand side

Hello all.
I have a 1500 engine with 1641 pistons and pots. It is running standard carb (new) pict31 it also has electronic ignition with performance coil. The issue I have is it is running hot on the right-hand side head and OK on the left. Timing seems fine. Does anyone know what might be causing this? Regards in advance Gary

Why do you reckon it is running hot?

If it is it would almost certainly be a vacuum leak

What colour are your plugs

On the right side I can not touch the exhaust but on the left I can. When I put a new exhaust on it the paint burnt off straight away on the right but still OK on the left. Never owning a VW before so don't know if this is normal

No. Not normal.
Are all cylinders firing?
Do you hear each cylinder drop out if you pull each plug lead

You should not be able to touch the exhaust

Put some new intake manifold boots on. I had the same problem and it turned out to be an air leak because of tiny cracks in the rubber boot, they are cheap so you might as well do both.
Good luck

So the problem is on the left side running cooler? Is it normal to run to hot to touch? Regards Gary
