Problem with 79 kombi door

Had a bit of a mishap with my kombi today, the sliding door actually came totally adrift from the body and landed on the ground, I've rectified ( sorta 🙄😳) the damage which was minor and sourced a replacement bottom runner as I found the one on the bus was missing a bearing, I've managed to get the door back on but am unable to open it as the rear hinge U piece isn't able to swing out enabling the door to run past the body, I'm thinking that it was somehow "rearranged" when the door came adrift but can't see how to rectify the problem. Any one else out there had this problem and can give me any hints on how to overcome it?
Thanks
Don

you need a helper pulling with a hook into the far end while you try the handle and force it.

Failing that someone thumping it from the inside on the stuck edge
unbolting the catch from inside will help reduce the jambiing

a pic may help to show if the door closed incorrectly onto the front lock

want any vw bits old but like me, Made in Germany!!!

The hinge piece that has the roller bearing has a hook that catches once the U hinge moves past a certain point.

Remove the track cover, look near where the U hinge goes through the roller bearing carrier and you will see a spring and 2 flat metal pieces.
The lower piece is the one that locks the roller carrier into place.
Push the back of it, then force the U hinge back and you'll be able to move it back into position.

I'll add in a picture tomorrow to give you an idea, without photo editing software right now.
