What is a good manual to own for a 1970 VW?
What is a good manual to own?
I am interested in everything but especially wiring diagrams.
Thanks

"Haines" are from the UK. May or may not be the same as your model, but will give you a clue.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Beetle-Karmann-1954-79-Automotive-Manuals/dp/1850107...
"Bentley" is from the USA. Even though many will stridently refer to it's hallowed pages like Moses on the Mount, a lot of it is inapplicable to
our vehicles. What is applicable is detailed and in depth.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/0837616239/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_3?pf_rd_p=194468772...
Gregorys" are as Aussie as Hawthorn winning the flag, again, hopefully. I've also found their electrical diagrams generally to be excellent, clear
and easy to understand, and they cater to our locally produced models.

This book is the best book ever written by anyone for anything bar none. I even read it with a funny-sounding Hippie voice to my kids and they love
it, although you could do that to any book I guess (if you wanna be a drag, man.......). Worth the bread man, and the pictures are just the cooest.
You can also get T-shirts with the drawings on them, I wear them all the time.

This one........ http://vwparts.aircooled.net/How-to-Hotrod-Your-VW-Engine-by-Bill-Fischer-p/h... ........and this one......... http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/VW-Volkswagen-Baja-Bugs-and-Buggies-Book-VW-Buggy-... .........I've had for nearly 30 years and
have guided me through to today. I have both covered in notes everywhere, and have referred to both constantly. Hardly any electrical stuff though.
Probably explains why I like hotrod Baja's too.
Although that could just be a coincidence.

At least the CKD Australian 1970 VW was closer to the European/US models than the 1960-67 fully manufactured ones, so any of the overseas manuals will
generally be OK. The Gregorys are the most Aussie and have RHD wiring diagrams.
Apart from the aforementioned Haynes, Bentley and Gregorys, there are also US manuals by Clymer, Chilton and Autobooks , and UK manuals by InterEurope
and Autopress. They're all good to add to your collection.
Do an Ebay search on 'VW Beetle workshop manual' and away you go.

How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive by John Muir and the Bentley manual are in my view the two best

The Bentley [official VW of America] workshop manual is great..
The Gregory's workshop manual [Australia] are quite good books with wiring diagrams. there were many updated versions of this
manual..
You really cannot have too many service/workshop manuals..
Autobooks VW Beetle 1954-78 Maintenance and repair manual OMG505 from the UK
CHILTON'S repair & tune up guide Volkswagen 1949 to 1971 USA
HAYNES Volkswagen Beetle Owners handbook & servicing guide UK 54-77
There are many Chilton's and Haynes manuals
the VW beetle handbook tuning and maintenance UK english version.
I have many more different workshop manuals for Beetles...
North American Beetles have an entirely different wiring diagram than RHD Australian made/delivered/imported....
I'll email the Aussie RHD 1970 wiring diagram to You but You will still need a good workshop manual to work on Your VW Beetle...

Forgot about that website....
I wonder how long it will be on the net?
I haven't spoken to Rob from Adelaide for a few years...
From memory, the website was done by the fellow in the USA's Daughter....
A lot of EXCELLENT INFORMATION on that site....

Thank you for your replies. I have been out of town for the last few days (Nostalgia Drags in Brissy) and have just got back.
I will chase up the recommended manuals and might grab a few tshirts etc too.
I think that the car I have is a bit of a mongrel so I will see how I go.
I appreciate your help.

Just remember that the late John Muir wasn't a mechanic...
He just wrote books...
Did you get an Australian wiring diagram?
