Welcome Tim to AVD...
I'm looking forward to seeing Your type 3 fastback.
I see it is a late model...
You don't have to worry about the salt eating Your car away in Australia , unlike Ireland {EIRE} and the UK etc.
Our main problem down here is the UV rays from the Sun, as there is a hole in the ozone layer here and the sun's UV rays are VERY SEVERE...
Try to keep Your fastback in the shade as much as possible as all the rubber bits in the sun, like window rubbers can dry out and crack very fast...
Door rubber window scrapers and 1/4 window rubber seals all deteriorate very fast....
If You can get good quality German or USA made rubbers they will last longer than cheaper alternatives...
But as they don't have the UV problem in Europe or North America, Keeping the car in the shade is still a Must...
Yikes, a big job You have undertaken there...
But just think once it is on the road, You won't have to worry about salt eating the body and chassis away...
I haven't seen a front shock tower totally eaten away hear in Australia...
or a mudguard/fender/wing totally eaten away by the salt on the roads..

You don't see too many type 3's in Australia...
They were probably broken up when the used by date arrived...
as most cars were....
There is a fastback locally [30 klms away] that I see occasionally , looks like it could still be the original owner driving it.... I think its white
and maybe an early model???? not sure.
I know it has sonic extractors muffler system which just about every VW had back in the 60s 70s in Australia... it was a locally produced extractor
exhaust with the muffler coming out on the RHS usually....

Yeah I,ve taken on a lot for this resto, as its the proverbial basket case as you can see from all the pics so far here.

But they are a great car, and worth saving if possible. But because of the scarcity of parts in Ireland,
I cant source bodycuts, so I have to make all the panels for repair, plus the heater channels.
Interesting process though.

Looks great in the pic, but this photo of under the wing bulkhead is typical of
the rust repairs needed under neath.
