Australian delivered "Formula Vee" Superbugs
Hi All,
Does anyone have any pictures, knowledge or memories of these cars from the early 70's?
I have pics of a '71 bought new by a family member. This car was sold in '84.
I have recently got my hands on another '71 which has managed to survive with most of the extras present and intact.
I'm assuming the stripes/shifter/over-riders etc were all dealer fitted accessories at the time?? Can anyone confirm?
Does anyone have any stats on how many were sold? This is probably impossible to know if they were in fact dressed up at the dealer.
I'll post pics of the 2 cars soon.
Does anyone have any knowledge about these cars to contribute?
THANKS

The parts were all sold separately and fitted by the dealers. These are Australia only.
From memory there was a chequered stripe on the gutters.
A formula Vee sticker.
Hub caps that were supposed to look like Porsche wheels.
The brochures are still around and I think that I have one somewhere.
A lot of dealers were just fitting random stripes around that time and were not the genuine article.
I read it on samba, so it must be correct.
Sometimes Volkswagen dealers sell spare parts. Amazing isn't it!

Thanks for your reply.
I suspected they were all dealer fitted accessories.
Funny you mentioned the gutter trims, I was going to ask a question about this after I had some pics to post.
The car I have now has clips along the gutter/drip rail that obviously used to retain a moulding. I have seen one photo of the checkered mouldings
somewhere, so I guess it may have had these fitted originally.
It also has the Fuch style hubcaps, stripes like the ones in my avatar pic, a Formula Vee decal on the engine lid, bumper over-riders, gear stick,
alum plates behind the door handles and also on the mudguards at the end of the running boards. It also has aluminium trims on the 2 rectangular
vents in the engine lid.
