White blinkers
Hi all,
Just wondering, I have just purchased a 70 beetle and it has the parking and blinker together on top of the guard , I always thought all blinkers had
to be amber in colour.
It has a dual filliment globe.
Somehow I don't think it will be legal, but it was registered like this, so maybe???
Thanks

A 70 Beetle should have amber with a single filament globe.
White wide blinkers were only from '65-'67 (6 volt only)
I read it on samba, so it must be correct.
Sometimes Volkswagen dealers sell spare parts. Amazing isn't it!

Parking light is in the main headlight. For wing top sidelight/indicators to be legal then they have to be separated within the light unit and have
separate bulbs.
Clear indicator lenses are fine so long as you have an orange bulb fitted.

White blinkers
Thanks fo the replies, it has been restored this way along with a few other things.
There doesen't seem a place for a parking light except if I drill a hole for a push in globe holder and rewire it.

Clear lens with amber globe is legal. About 11 million new cars over the last 14 years have been sold with ADR approval in Australia with them.

That's new cars. You cannot buy a legal amber globe for a Beetle. Legal amber globes have staggered pins.

The RMS states that if a vehicle came out with that colour lens then they are registrable
I have had several Bugs with this over the years and my 65 has them on it

1970 Beetle has amber.
The amber ones are easy to get and the white ones are becoming rare so I am sure that you could sell the white ones for a profit. (or just use an
orange globe if you want the white look)
I read it on samba, so it must be correct.

White blinkers
oops, my other bug is a 70 this one is a 71, (sorry)
Anyway it's been modified to have a dual filament globe on top of the guard, parking and blinker white globe and white lens.
Looks like I'll have to alter it and add parkers somewhere????
Thanks

Ah, see I buy my bulbs from the UK cos they're vastly cheaper even with the P&P And the staggered pin bulbs are as easily available as the normal BA15 bulb

White Blinkers
I spoke to the previous owner just recently and he informed me that's what he wanted, to have white blinkers and he knew someone who would pass
it,
Ok so now I'll change the globe to a single in the blinkers and rewire the parkers and drill a hole in the headlight lens reflector to be able to
push in a parking light socket.
I'll see about it tomorrow, I think.
