1964 VW exhaust question

Hi Guys,
Just a question went to go and get my exhaust tips replaced as the ones on currently are looking a bit old.i was told that the standard exhaust tips have baffles in them and if i was going to replace them i might as well get a performance system as it makes it loud if i just do the tips. Is this true does it make it louder and if i replace the system what would be best as i dont wont a dronny exhaust system. I have a 64 with a 1410cc engine completely standard bar the displacement increase.
